➢ This September, I visited Sikinos for the first time, one of the tiniest Cycladic islands, yet also one of the most authentic.
Between Chorio and Kastro, the Chora unfolds with narrow whitewashed alleys, blooming bougainvillea, and a slow rhythm that feels like stepping back in time. Life flows through the little tavernas and cozy cafés tucked into quiet squares.
For an unforgettable view, climb (on foot or by car) to the monastery of Zoodochos Pigi. From there, the panorama embraces the Chora, the whole island, and the endless blue of the Aegean.

⛴️ Παίρνοντας το μικρό τουριστικό καραβάκι από την Ιο και σε μόλις είκοσι λεπτά βρεθήκαμε στην κατάλευκη Σικινο και ορίστε κάποιες ιδέες για να απολαύσεις και εσυ την πανέμορφη και ακόμα αγνή Κυκλαδα.
🚐Φτάνοντας πήραμε το λεωφορείο της γραμμής και φτάσαμε στην μικρή και πανέμορφη Χώρα της.
🌺 Περιηγηθήκαμε στα σοκάκια του Κάστρου και κάναμε βόλτα ανάμεσα στις μπουκαμβίλιες του Χωριού, τις δυο γειτονιές της χώρας και καθήσαμε στην πλατεία όπου απολαύσαμε τον καφέ μας.
🍷 Στην συνέχεια επισκεφτήκαμε το οινοποιείο του Μάναλη όπου δοκιμάσαμε μοναδικά κρασιά με θέα τους ατέλειωτους αμπελώνες και το μπλε του Αιγαίου.
🏝️ Λίγο μετα το μεσημέρι δροσιστήκαμε στην πανέμορφη παραλία της Αλοπρόνοιας με τα καταγάλανα νερα της, φάγαμε τοπικές λιχουδιες στην Θάλασσα και αργά το απόγευμα πήραμε το καραβάκι της επιστροφής βάζοντας ένα ακόμα τικ στην λίστα μας ✅

Greek Island Tradition of Diving as Ferry Departs Alarms Authorities
Every summer on the small island of Sikinos in Greece, residents mark the end of the tourist season there with a daring ritual known as “The Dive.” The custom takes place as the ferry departs the island’s port, bound for Piraeus. As the vessel slowly pulls away, its horn sounds in a long, celebratory blast. On cue, groups of locals leap into the foamy wake, swimming in the turbulent waters to bid a spirited farewell to both the ship and the departing visitors.
What has grown into a festive local tradition has increasingly raised concern among authorities. Greek officials warn that leaping into the sea so close to the ferry’s massive propellers poses a serious risk of injury or drowning. This year, the Coast Guard made a visible effort to intervene, stationing officers along the edge of the port in an attempt to discourage the practice. Despite their presence, several determined participants managed to slip past and plunge into the churning waters, underscoring the challenge of balancing cherished custom with public safety.

❗️Όπως κάθε χρόνο έτσι και φέτος, μικροί και μεγάλοι της Σικίνου είπαν το δικό τους «αντίο» στους τουρίστες που πέρασαν τις καλοκαιρινές του διακοπές στο νησί. Πρόκειται για τους λεγόμενους «απονεριστές» και το έθιμο της... βουτιάς.
▪️Λίγο μετά την αναχώρηση του πλοίου «Διονύσιος Σολωμός» από το λιμάνι της Σικίνου με προορισμό τον Πειραιά, ως είθισται πλέον στο νησί, το πλοίο κορνάρει παρατεταμένα και ο κόσμος βουτάει στα απόνερά του για το αποχαιρετήσει.
▪️Σε ένα διαφορετικό σκηνικό φέτος, ένας άνδρας και μια γυναίκα από το λιμενικό προσπαθούσαν να σταματήσουν τον κόσμο από το να βουτήξει λόγω της επικινδυνότητας του εθίμου. Ωστόσο δεν κατάφεραν πολλά, αφού αρκετοί πέτυχαν την πολυπόθητη βουτιά.

Whenever ferries depart, crowds gather at the dock to wave and cheer goodbye.
Ferry passengers will see a herd of children gathered at the edge of the dock in their swimsuits. Once the ferry has pulled away from the dock, the kids jump, dive, and cannonball into the churning waters, sending up echoes of laughter behind them.
Jumping into the water after the ferry leaves, honours people leaving the island; celebrating them and wishing them a pleasant journey home. ⛴️🏊🏼👋🏼
