Most firms that moved to Austin did not move because of Austin. They moved for tax efficiency or lifestyle. Their investment strategy stayed the same. Competing with them in Texas looks no different than competing with them in Silicon Valley. What changed is the sector mix. Austin was once dominated by enterprise software and semiconductors. Now it is a magnet for FinTech, InsureTech, health tech, robotics, and frontier innovation. Defence tech is emerging as one of the hottest categories in the country. From June 15-17, elite NFL athletes will join vetted founders at The Lodge at Blue Sky for three days of deal-making and relationship-building. This is a new approach to the athlete-investor ecosystem. The experience features curated programming including a Navy SEAL-led training challenge, private casino nights and live podcast tapings.
