Good morning from Apex! The Skating Loop is officially open for the season! All season passes have skating included except the free children’s pass. Skating tickets are $5 + GST and are available at ticket booth or the rental shop. These tickets have access to both the shinny/pond hockey ice surface and the skating loop! Look forward to seeing you up here and Happy Holidays!

When to give kids ski poles is a surprisingly hot topic. Here’s our take: No matter when you introduce them, kids will want poles. Even if you’re not using them, they’ll ask, beg, and “borrow” yours every chance they get. We started teaching our boys to ski at age 3, so poles would have only been an overstimulating distraction. The fundamentals had to be solid first. As a family, we agreed on these milestones before introducing poles: ✅ Linked parallel turns on black diamonds ✅ Skating along flats ✅ Whirlybirds (balance & edge control) This way, they had something to work for and helped defuse power struggles when the poles topic came up. By the end of last season, they had mastered all of these skills, but we still weren’t sure they were ready to manage poles on the hill. Instead, we bought them little adjustable poles and practiced with them while hiking and in the parking lot, focusing on: 🎿 Poles are tools, not toys 🎿 How to hold them properly 🎿 Hands-forward positioning 🎿 Keeping the pointy end down 🎿 Pole planting before a turn Once they had the basics down, we introduced poles on a few runs per day. Now, in their third season, and over 125 days of skiing, they’re using them all day—as long as they treat them as tools, not toys! One More Thing About Chairlifts 🚡 Many people mentioned that kids should be able to load the chairlift by themselves before they get poles. While we understand this idea, it may not apply to every child. Our boys are small for their age due to being born prematurely, and they likely won’t be able to load the chair independently for a few more years. We didn’t think it was fair to delay poles just because of their height. Ultimately, this is a personal decision, and like all parenting choices, not everyone will agree—but that’s okay! We went skiing, ice-skating, horse-riding, chill in the beautiful spa, hiking, enjoing the breathtaking views and visited the beautiful village of St. Moritz🙌🏻 The hotel and its surroundings are just absolutely gorgeous and has everything that your can wish for😍 I did stay there for a collaboration but I promise you, this hotel is one of a kind and an absolute recommendation from me🙌🏻
