Sports parents — yelling and coaching from the sidelines isn’t helping your athlete.
It adds pressure.
It creates multiple voices in their head.
And it pulls them out of the moment instead of letting them compete.
Your role isn’t to manage every play — it’s to support your athlete so they can do their best, play free, and learn to trust themselves.
That support matters more than you think.
Follow Coach for more real talk on how to best support your youth athlete on their journey.

The one secret no one shares
Coaches spot these parents instantly—and it hurts YOUR athlete’s development:
❌ The Sideline Strategist - Stop coaching during games. Your athlete needs to trust ONE voice—their coach’s. Confusion kills confidence. Fix: Bite your tongue. Cheer effort, not strategy.
❌ The Excuse Engine - Stop blaming refs, weather, or “politics” after losses. You’re teaching your athlete to avoid responsibility. Fix: Ask “What could you control better next time?” instead of pointing fingers.
❌ The Failure Shield - Stop switching teams every time things get tough. Adversity builds champions—comfort builds quitters. Fix: Help them problem-solve through challenges instead of running from them.
The bottom line: Coaches want parents who build mental toughness, not break it down. 💪

Right after the game is the worst time to give your kid unrequested feedback. They’re exhausted, emotional, and still processing while also experiencing an adrenaline crash.
If they ask for thoughts? Help them.
But they don’t, do the work to regulate your emotions instead of dumping your feelings on them in the car.
Your kid needs your love a whole lot more than your analysis.

Sometimes sports parents are misunderstood.
From the outside, it can look like we’re chasing wins, trophies, starting positions, scholarships, or the next level.
But for so many of us, it’s about something much bigger.
Sports give our kids opportunities to learn how to work hard, stay humble, handle disappointment, be a good teammate, respond to coaching, and keep going when things get difficult.
Of course we want to see them succeed.
But even more than that, we want to see them become good people.
Because eventually, the sport ends.
But the lessons, character, and confidence they build along the way go with them for life.
Build the athlete behind the sport.
Parents, they can't hear you from the stands. But they can see you.
Crossed arms, pacing, yelling instructions: your kid reads all of it. One tip: close your mouth and smile. Let the coach coach. You be the parent.
And when the game ends? Big hug. Big smile. That's it.
Send this to a sports parent who needs it.

If your kids are in sports, then you already know how it goes.
You work all week, rush home, get stuff ready, make it to practice, make it to the games, and somehow still handle everything else life has going on.
It gets tiring, but we do it for our kids. One day they’re gonna look back and realize their parents were always the ones making it happen for them. 🏈
Most parents want confident, successful athletes.
Very few are willing to do what actually creates them.
Accountability isn’t harsh.
Standards aren’t cruel.
Discomfort isn’t damage.
What holds young athletes back isn’t talent — it’s protection from responsibility. Excuses feel loving in the moment, but they quietly stunt your athlete’s growth.
🔑 The parents who see real results are the ones willing to be misunderstood, willing to be firm, and willing to prioritize long-term development over short-term comfort.
Especially for dads and single mothers carrying both roles — this isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being consistent. When expectations are clear and effort is non-negotiable, kids grow into the version of themselves they wish to become. Confidence follows. Performance follows.
Hold the line.
Watch what happens.
It’s that simple…💡

Sports Mom Diaries, EP. 2🏀
Everyone says “let them have fun, it’s just a game.” I disagree.
Fun is what happens; it’s not why we’re there. We’re there for the discipline, the losing, the getting back up. The stuff you can’t teach on a couch.
We’re not raising kids who had fun for a season. We’re raising adults who can do hard things.
Ep. 3 coming — what we did when she wasn’t getting playing time. Follow Sports Mom Diaries so you don’t miss it.💚
