This right here… this is where it all starts 🤍
When you’re raising kids with dietary restrictions, it’s easy to carry so much pressure as a parent.
The label reading.
The worrying.
The “is this safe?” over and over again.
But kids? They’re resilient.
And I’ve learned that bringing them into the kitchen — letting them mix, help, create — it changes everything.
It gives them confidence.
It makes food feel fun again.
It shows them that gluten-free isn’t something to fear… it’s just part of our life.
They’re watching us.
They’re learning from us.
And if we can make it feel safe and normal at home… that’s everything.
That’s why I created Purely Gluten-Free — to make this journey easier for families like ours.

🐝𝐋𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬: The Free-From Fiasco
We attempted gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free brownies. 🫠
Were they perfect? No.
Did we eat them anyway? Obviously.
We’ve been trying to figure out what’s going on with his little face - first we thought food allergies, now it’s likely eczema. So for a while we cut dairy, gluten, eggs… the lot.
I tried to make it feel fun rather than restrictive.
Reality looked like this:
🤍 Navy cupboards + little fingers = regret
🤍 Chocolate brownies and a white rugby top should never mix
🤍 Slightly more sugar than I’d usually allow
🤍 Counting the marshmallows first (because I’m still that mum)
Flour hands. 👋🏼
Chaos. 🤪
A kitchen that needed rescuing. 🧼
But also… the best kind of afternoon 🤍
Not every bake has to be perfect. Sometimes it’s just about making the tricky bits feel lighter. 💪🏼😅
Gluten Free Sweet Potato Brownie
Episode 20 of my Sweet Treats for Little Kids series and today it’s a gluten-free sweet potato brownie. Soft, chocolatey, naturally sweetened with dates, and the best part… you can’t taste the sweet potato at all. Tried, tested, and approved by my kids before sharing it with you
Ingredients
¾ cup rolled oats
¼ cup cacao powder
1 teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon baking soda
Fat pinch of salt
⅓ cup soft deseeded dates
¼ cup hot milk
2 small sweet potatoes, steamed, peeled and mashed
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
¼ cup softened butter
¼ cup chopped dark chocolate
Method
Grind the rolled oats along with the cacao powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt into a fine flour and set it aside. Soak the soft deseeded dates in ¼ cup hot milk for a few minutes until soft.
Transfer the soaked dates along with the milk to a blender. Add the egg and vanilla and blend until smooth.
Pour the blended mixture into a bowl. Add the softened butter and whisk well until combined.
Add the mashed sweet potatoes and mix until smooth.
Add the prepared dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and gently fold until just combined.
Fold in the chopped dark chocolate.
Transfer the batter to a lined square baking tin and spread evenly.
Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 20–25 minutes or until set but slightly gooey in the center.

Sweet treat was made a little late this week because we ALL GOT THE FLU AGAIN. I am so over bodily fluids 🤮🤒😢
So we finally got to our sweet treat today…also perfect for Sunday morning 😉 recipe below! Gluten and grain free.
Sweet Potato Brownies
1 medium Japanese sweet potato baked and super tender(about 1 cup)
1 cup smooth almond butter
2 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
3/4 tsp sea salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 tbsp tapioca flour
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1 tsp instant espresso powder(optional)
1/4 tsp cinnamon(optional)
1/3 cup maple syrup(or more if you have a pretty sweet tooth)
1/2 cup dark chocolate chips of your choice(add more if you like!)
Throw everything besides the chocolate chips into a large food processor and mix until fluffy. Scoop into parchment covered baking dish and top with choc chips. Bake at 350 F for 25-30 mins. Top of brownies should look dry and shiny. Let cool before cutting if you can wait!!
Inspired by the recipe @corrina.dunne shared 🤍
I made several changes for my tastes(the tapioca starch makes them a bit fluffier and adds resistant starch, less maple syrup, espresso powder for depth, less baking soda for high altitude, less cinnamon, less salt), but both recipes are super tasty! Enjoy.

Can't decide on cake or cookies? Have both. It's a pretty solid plan, right??
Making a cookie cake like this is pretty easy. Crush cookies or blitz them in your food processor, then place them on a baking tray. Crumb coat your cake, then roll the entire cake through your cookie crumbs. Yes, it can be that easy.
I've used @rulebreakersnacks cookies which are gluten free, vegan, and top 9 free.

One of the trickiest parts about going gluten-free isn’t the food…
it’s your kids.
I’m not a fancy pastry chef—I’m a mom.
And my goal is that my kids barely feel like life is any different… at least until they’re old enough to understand why we’ve made the choices we have.
So when my son’s birthday came up, I made treats for his class that were completely gluten-free—so hopefully everyone could enjoy them.
My mom used to make these soft ginger cookies for me when I was little, and now they’re my kids’ favorites too. I’ve tweaked the original recipe so that no one even realizes they’re gluten-free…
and for his birthday, he asked me to turn them into little cookie sandwiches with a lemon buttercream filling 🤍
I’m happy to share the recipe if you want it!
Have you ever had to navigate food intolerances with your kids?

Little Tuesday taste test 🤪 I’ve been hearing about the @bakeful_eats brand lately and I’ve been wanting to try these treats so bad! I love a cleaner choice for an in-the-go dessert and I LOVE that they use nothing artificial 🙌🏻 Can you tell Noah liked it 😅😂 #bakeful #toddlersnacks

🍪 Soft. Chewy. Chocolatey. And completely gluten-free 🙌
These cookie bars are on repeat in our house because they’re ridiculously easy, kid-approved, and perfect for tossing into lunch boxes when life gets busy.
Honestly… good luck stopping at one 😏

One of the hardest parts of being gluten-free as a kid?
Birthday parties.
The pizza comes out.
The cupcakes get passed around.
And suddenly your child is the one who can’t have it.
So I started doing something simple.
I keep gluten-free cupcakes in our freezer so when we head to a party…
I grab one and bring it with us.
And just like that, my kid gets to celebrate like everyone else.
No explaining.
No feeling left out.
Just a cupcake and a smile.
Mom wins.
That’s actually part of why I started Purely Gluten-Free — to make moments like this easier for families like ours.
Every month we send a surprise box of gluten-free finds so your pantry stays stocked with safe treats.
