🦵 Don't mess with thick-legged stick insects!
🌿 Even though all stick insects are vegan, some can still draw bl🩸🩸d!
🫣 Most species are gentle and their best way to escape being eaten is to play hide and seek. But some, like this thorny devil stick insect, choose violence 👹!
🛡️ The animals are not aggressive but will defend themselves if they feel threatened (which honestly is almost all the time, even when I try to give them new food 😂). When you get too close they grip you with their hind legs and squeeze really hard with their spines. They can pierce skin, that's why their legs are used as fishing hooks in Papua New Guinea 🎣!
👉 Send this to someone who would (or wouldn't 🤭) dare to hold this stick insect!

The Leaf Insect is one of nature’s best examples of camouflage, perfectly shaped to look like a real leaf. Its body has veins, curves, and even small imperfections that mimic leaves so well that predators often can’t tell the difference.
These insects stay incredibly still during the day and may gently sway back and forth to imitate a leaf moving in the wind. This behavior helps them avoid being noticed by birds and other predators.
Leaf insects are mostly found in tropical regions and feed on plant leaves. Their ability to blend in so perfectly makes them one of the most fascinating and deceptive creatures in the animal world.
