Getting to Valley Tayrona means a 15-minute walk from the bus stop, but the VIEWS! They make it totally worth it.
It’s a great place to stay if you want to be close to Tayrona Park in Colombia without spending too much. We paid around 30USD per night for a private room.
Good food, delicious breakfasts, and a calm place to disconnect… or meet new people.

📌 Save this post if you’re planning to visit Colombia 🇨🇴 The hidden beach at Tayrona park is called ….
…. Playa Brava 🏝️
How to get there 🗺️
1️⃣ Enter Tayrona Nationalpark at Calabazo entrance. We recommend to start at 8 AM when gates open. Entrance is 90k.
2️⃣ Hike up (~3,5km) or take the Moto taxi 🏍️. We hiked it wasn’t too hard.
3️⃣ At one point the path splits. Turn left towards Playa Brava. It’s about 3,5 km and will take you about 1,5 hours to Playa Brava.
Things to know ℹ️
- If you’re planning to stay over night, it’s better if you reserve beforehand. You can do via email or WhatsApp, find all info at @playabrava_tayrona One hammock is 50k, you can also book huts 🛖 they’re ~300k.
- Bring enough cash! 💰 You can only pay cash.
- Google Maps doesn’t work. Use maps.me instead.
- Bring enough water 💦 We’ve only bumped into one place on our hike.
- Make sure to wear proper shoes 🥾The path is quite steep and sometimes slippery.
- Bring mosquito repellent! 🦟
- Pack some warm clothes for the night. They’ll give you a thin blanket but it’s not too warm.

Perfect spot to recharge before or after hiking the park we ended up not staying in the park overnight and glad we did, this hostel is STUNNING!
⛰️ Casa Masaya, Minca – This mountain hideaway in Minca is pure magic. Think dreamy views, chill hammocks and great food! But it’s quite deep in the jungle so once you get to the hostel you might not want to leave/ it’s kind of a pain but it does have amazing views and great vibes!

📍The Valley Tayrona Hostel, Colombia
@thevalleyhostel.tayrona
I’ve stayed in endless types of accommodation during my trips, but staying in a tree house in the middle of a jungle was a first, and I LOVED it! Nothing compares with being surrounded by nature, being woken up by many birds and falling asleep with the stars 🌌
Here is all you need to know to experience this unique stay:
📍 Located 2 km from the Tayrona Park
HOW TO GET THERE:
🚌 Get a bus from Santa Marta and stop in Trompito Alto/Malla Verde
From there take a quick motor-taxi or walk for 20 min but you will have to cross a small river
🚕 You can also take a 55 min taxi from Santa Marta
🛏️ This is a hostel with a variety of options from dorm rooms to superior private rooms
🌳 The hostel is remote so once you get back you probably won’t leave until the morning
🥘 It has a restaurant with communal tables so you don’t need to leave the hostel
🗣️ The staff and the guests are incredible friendly. I travelled solo but met loads of incredible people there.
🧘🏼♀️ They offer tours and activities like yoga. Just check the program in the reception
🦟 Bring repellent

Two worlds colliding again, finance and travel! I went on a 6 night, 7 day trip to Colombia here’s what I spent.
The costs below are in CAD.
✈️ Flight - $1217.67
The most expensive flight I’ve booked in a while but that’s because the dates were fixed so I didn’t really have a choice! Usually, I book based on flight deals but when dates are set, that’s not always possible. Today I got an email for a flight to Cali, Colombia for less than $600 round trip!
🏨 Lodging - $568.47
Two beautiful hotels and such a great price! This trip reaffirmed my love for Boutique Hotels, @1616hotel in Medellin was so beautiful and had great staff. @hiltonsantamarta was gorgeous as well.
🌮 Food - $217.83
We ate at some fancy restaurants and at the hotel many times which are considered expensive for Colombia. Every single meal we had here hit. Subscribe to my newsletter where I’ll be sharing my favourite restaurant from Colombia this week!
🥳 Excursions - $48
I came here to relax, not to do many activities, so I only spent $48 in this area. This was a full-day tour of Tayrona Park in Santa Marta which included meals, snorkelling & a guide.
🚕 Transportation - $65.06
Ubers are extremely affordable and ensure that the drivers aren’t overcharging you. Taxi drivers aren’t big fans of Uber though and may make comments if they see you using it.
Lounge - $67.60
Using her @amexcanada, @tokstalks got access to the Delta Lounge and for $50 USD was able to bring me on as a buddy. We had access to drinks, food, wifi and a place to rest. This convinced me to use lounges going forward!
Grand Total = $2184.63 or 1656.76 USD
What do we think? Let me know if you have any questions.
Do you like these breakdowns? If so, I can do more!
xo,
Reni

There’s always that one friend on a hike and if you don’t know who it is, then maybe it’s you 👀 I do think my sister low key hated me in all of these hiking moments haha
But in all seriousness, not everyone has the same pace when walking and it’s hard to make everyone happy especially when majority of the hike is up hill and it’s really hard to actively go slower (coming from a fast walker!).
All of these videos are from Colombia and most from the Tayrona Park full loop (with overnight stay!) so if you have done this hike you will know how brutal it can be 😅
One of the best feelings though is finding a hiking buddy with a similar stride 💚🚶🏻♀️
