On Sunday afternoon, the Washington Ukrainian Humanitarian Center held its second workshop on Ukrainian egg decorating -pysanky - and the room quickly filled with that particular mix of focus and quiet laughter that comes when people are trying something both delicate and unfamiliar. At the center of it all was @candy_cart_vi , moving from person to person, never rushing, never missing anyone. It is, she explains, a process that demands patience and attention to detail. Each line is drawn in wax, each layer of dye revealing something new, each symbol carrying meaning shaped by region - protection, renewal, continuity. #silverspringmd #pysanky #eggdecorating #workshop

For those who don’t know — Pysanka are traditional Ukrainian Easter eggs. But they are not just eggs. Every single pattern, every color, every symbol has a meaning. It is one of the oldest and most beautiful traditions in Ukrainian culture. And honestly making them so far from home hits different. It feels like a little act of keeping something alive. Like no matter where I am — this tradition travels with me. 💛 It takes so much patience and focus but the moment you finish one and hold it in your hands… worth every second. If you have never heard of Pysanka before — would you want me to do a full video explaining the symbols and what they mean? 👇🇺🇦 #canada #makhnachov #canadalife #ukraine

Ukrainian Easter egg - Pysanka in the UK

Workshop by Sofiia Ohorodnyk. Thank you @sierra.college for this opportunity. Today we had a workshop on painting Ukrainian pysanky (traditional Easter eggs) one of the oldest Ukrainian traditions. The history of pysanky in Ukraine goes back more than 1,000 years, to the time of Kyivan Rus (10th–12th centuries). A pysanka symbolizes life, renewal, and hope, and every ornament and color has its own meaning, wishes for goodness, protection, and prosperity. I painted a pysanka in the style of the Lviv region. Lviv played a very important role in the development of Ukrainian culture. It’s very nice when Ukrainian traditions are shared even here in California. It’s especially meaningful that international students joined this event — we meet, talk, and share our culture. It was really nice to meet everyone💛💙
