This instrument was made by Justin Hess in 2021. It’s a very powerful and strong violin. The clarity is amazing! I have no trouble hearing myself in the section, but I’m able to play quietly and confidentially when necessary. Justen is making one for me, and I should have it in a little over a year. I am truly excited and so looking forward. Ruby, age 11, is an active sixth-grader who loves to swimming, violin, soccer and writing. But when Ruby was 3 years old, her parents Ali and Mark wondered if she’d make it to her fifth birthday. Ruby went to the doctor for a little white spot at the bottom of her neck. It ended up being cancer, and it had spread to her lungs, and one tumor was pressing on her heart. Just as her family was considering hospice, doctors at Intermountain Primary Children’s Hospital used a then-new technology, rapid whole genome sequencing (rWGS), on Ruby and the tumor. That helped them identified a new, targeted therapy for Ruby’s cancer. It worked. The tumors in Ruby’s lungs shrunk by 90 percent in a few months. “Now, there’s no evidence of disease, and she’s been off treatment for three years,” her mom said. Ruby is now giving back, and helping other families at Primary Children’s Hospital by serving meals at the Ronald McDonald Family Room. #primarychildrenshospital #festivaloftrees2024

Ramsbottom ward patients were treated to Irish music, dancing and singing, led by resident doctor Sunita Edirisooriya on the violin. Ward clerk Pauline Hart added more sparkle with a tap dance performance, while patients joined in with tambourines and shakers. Sunita said: "Music is a powerful tool for connection. It felt especially special with our patients, many of whom are living with dementia. “It was a privilege to be able to offer holistic care in this way, and it stands out as one of my most meaningful experiences as a doctor."

This took over 30 years to make 🎻  (Surprise in last clip 🙃)      When people ask me what helped me get into med school, residency, and beyond (life in general)...this is it.        You heard the screeches at age 3 🙉...and you see all the nice flourishes toward the end of the clip. Sure, being concertmaster in college at Duke, performing for the former president of Taiwan, the awards and accolades were all nice...but the process of mastering a skill, the appreciation I developed for music were the true takeaways.        A revelation ✨: So you don’t see the discipline and hours that went into daily practice/lessons/traffic jams, the tears, the perseverance, the parental support... but after watching these clips back, i was reminded of the feeling after every recital, competition, performance and what I realized was violin gave me confidence and something to be proud of.        #violin #perseverance #determination #growth #career #doctor #lifelessons
