MYTH: You have to maintain a part-time or prn job.
REALITY: You just need a working base when you get started!
MYTH: You have to live over a 50mile radius from your travel job to qualify for the tax free stipend.
REALITY: General rule of thumb is it should require an overnight stay to perform your job duties responsibly.
MYTH: It’s super important to save receipts for meals and CEUs.
REALITY: Only travel and lodging are critical UNLESS you are a 1099 worker!
MYTH: Travel nurses get audited more.
REALITY: It is actually very unlikely because there aren’t many deductions.
MYTH: Meals and housing are deductible.
REALITY: Things that ARE deductible include mortgage interest, property tax, state income tax (W2), charitable donations, medical expenses in limited cases.

✅ I mean that’s exactly what hospitals & agencies want you to believe. every line of your contract is up for discussion — if you know what to ask. if you don’t know what to ask, we got you 😉
🚫 nursing is a calling — money shouldn’t matter
✅ passion & profit can coexist. we don’t expect doctors or CEOs to work for “the calling” 👉🏼 so why are we guilting nurses into this belief?
🚫 taking time off between contracts is lazy
✅ we’d prefer the term “SMART”. time off is why so many of us choose to travel. some of us don’t want to spend our 20-30s working our lives away & prefer to live semi-retired now
🚫 travel nurses are overpaid
✅ we give up seniority, job security, our comfort zone, & stability to fill staffing gaps around the country and be uncomfy. we earn every penny & then some.
