It’s been 1 year since #TyreNichols’ untimely death and there is no doubt that his parents are still grieving the loss of their son. Please keep them in your prayers as they continue to pursue #JusticeForTyre and the many other individuals who’ve died at the hands of police.🙏🏿
#TyreNichols funeral hurt in a way I still can’t process. It was painful then and today hurts after the acquittal of the officers that took his life. Tyre was just 29, a year older than my own son and he yelled for his mother as he was fatally wounded. @real_sharpton delivered his eulogy and @attorneycrump made a call for justice as his parents, joined by Vice President @kamalaharris, tried to process the pain of losing their son. While I’ve done well over a hundred funerals in my 27 years with NAN, I still get teary eyed when I see his parents who have become NAN Family. This afternoon Rev. Al spoke to Tyre’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wells, and shared how we are all completely outraged by this acquittal. Mr. Wells noted in the discussion with Rev. that the prosecution put on a strong case and it was an all-white jury brought in from Chattanooga, and not even the citizens of Memphis, which is even more egregious. It is also absurd that the City of Memphis has taken no responsibility, claiming these officers acted on their own, when it was the rough tactics of the since-disbanded viper squad that empowered them to commit this brutal beating as Tyre called out for his mother. According to Rev. Al,Justice can still be delivered. These officers were also convicted on federal charges, for which we believe the justice system must now demand the maximum sentence. Tyre’s death was preventable, inexcusable, and tragic.

What Mainstream Media Isn’t Saying About the Tyre Nichols 🗣️ I sat down with Emmy Award-winning journalist and TV host Sharon Reed to get her insights on the troubling underreporting of Tyre Nichols’ case 👎🏾 At just 29 years old, Nichols was brutally beaten to death following an alleged traffic violation, with the horrific incident captured on camera. Despite the shocking footage and the indictment of five officers—two of whom have pleaded guilty—this case has not garnered the media attention it deserves 🫵🏾 Tune in for the full conversation via the link in my bio & join the conversation 💭 #ArevaMartin #SharonReed #ArevaMartinInRealTime #TyreNichols #LegalNews
In #Tennessee, the Senate is pushing two bills that have folks really concerned. SB 2572 could wipe out all the progress we made in Memphis after #TyreNichols' tragic death at the hands of police. It would stop local governments from putting any limits on how cops can do traffic stops. But we're fighting back. Head to bit.ly/nosb2572 to find call scripts and emails to send to senators, telling them to vote no on SB 2572. Meanwhile, SB 1596 aims to replace the board of #TennesseeStateUniversity with members handpicked by the governor, stripping the university of its independence. This move threatens TSU's ability to make decisions that benefit its students and community. Let's stand together and tell senators to reject SB 1596. Our voices matter in safeguarding our communities and institutions. #Politics
Three former Memphis officers were acquitted Wednesday of all state charges, including second-degree murder, in the fatal beating of Tyre Nichols after he ran away from a traffic stop, a death that sparked nationwide protests and prompted renewed calls for police reforms in the U.S. An out-of-town jury from a majority-white county took about 8 1/2 hours over two days to find Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley and Justin Smith not guilty on all charges after a nine-day trial in state court in Memphis, which is majority-Black. After the jury’s verdict was read, the defendants hugged their lawyers as relatives of the former officers cried. Outside the courtroom, one relative yelled, “Thank you, Jesus!” #tyrenichols #memphis
#TyreNichols would have turned 31 today.
All five former #Memphis police Officers charged in the death of #TyreNichols, appeared in court yesterday for arraignment.  All five officers pled not guilty to second-degree murder, aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, official misconduct, and official oppression.     The deadly encounter took place on Jan. 7th.  The five Memphis Officers were caught on video kicking, punching, and beating Nichols with a baton. Nichols was also pepper sprayed and tased multiple times.     The five officers - Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Emmit Martin, Desmond Mills Jr. and Justin Smith – are all Black. The “Scorpion Unit” which the officers belonged to has been since disbanded.   The next hearing for the five officers is May 1st. They face a maximum penalty of 60 years in prison if convicted of the murder charge.
Legal motions for acquittal have been filed for two ex-Memphis officers convicted in the Tyre Nichols case. Defense teams argue that the prosecution didn't prove their obstruction charges in court. Link in bio to watch the full video! #TyreNichols #Officers
Just moments after hearing that the officers who beat Tyre Nichols to death were acquitted of all charges, I called his father, Rodney Wells, during a break on my live broadcast. This is not just a legal failure, it’s a moral one. We marched and have stood with the family from the very beginning. National Action Network joined local activists and many more in demanding justice and now we see how far we still have to go. I commend the prosecutors who fought for accountability, but this verdict is an outrage. We will not let this go. I will continue to stand with the Nichols family and fight until justice is more than just a word. #JusticeForTyreNichols #TyreNichols #PoliceRefornNOW
