Quick real-world test of the HID.
In this video I take the device with me on a train, connect it to a simple mobile phone hotspot, and stream the input directly into my animation rig.
The movement data is transmitted instantly and the character reacts in real time.
No studio setup.
No cables.
Just a small controller, a laptop, and a mobile connection.
Seeing the character respond immediately to the physical input — even in a moving train — was a pretty satisfying moment. It shows that the system already works reliably outside controlled environments.
That’s exactly the goal of the HID project:
bringing a physical, intuitive animation workflow into real-time digital production.

A quick behind-the-scenes look at a small but important concept in 3D animation.
While animating, artists usually work in Perspective View to freely navigate and control the scene. The Camera View, however, represents the exact frame that the audience will eventually see.
Understanding this distinction is key for proper framing, composition, and storytelling in animation.

Effective 3D animation relies on how a scene is evaluated during development. Adjusting viewing modes allows creators to test balance, focus, and composition before presentation. This clip reflects that refinement stage.

Step 1: Build it.
Step 2: Animate it.
Step 3: Make the metal vanish.

Rubi tries a trend! And we try monocular motion capture with a phone camera 😳
We shot this in a garage, then used a custom smoothing pipeline written in python and run in blender before retargeting to Rubi’s skeleton inside Unreal Engine. Still have a lot of kinks to work out, but that’s life!
Check out @rubiredrock for the end result 👀

What you see: a perfect frame.
What I see: the entire scene, angles, controls, adjustments.
That’s the difference between camera view and perspective view in 3D animation.
One is for creating.
One is for storytelling.

The audience sees the frame.
The animator sees everything around it.
That’s the real difference between camera view and final output.

In the 1990s, computer animation was extremely tedious because almost everything had to be done by hand, frame by frame. Animators manually set positions, movements, and timing for each frame, often with limited tools and slower computers, making even simple scenes take hours or days to complete. 💻
Software at the time lacked automation features like physics engines, motion capture, or advanced rigging, so animators had to carefully adjust every detail themselves. Rendering was also much slower, meaning artists had to wait long periods just to see the final result. ⏳
Today, modern tools can automate many of these processes, allowing animators to focus more on creativity rather than repetitive work. What once took weeks can now often be done in a fraction of the time. 🎬
