🍀 14/09 : Your positive news of the day 🍀“I knew I was destined to do something. But I didn’t know it’d be this, admittedly.”Jason Arday grew up on a London housing estate with his three brothers and sisters. Unable to speak, he was diagnosed with autism at the age of 3 and learned sign language a year later. After speech therapy and the support of his mother, who sang songs to him in his articulations, he was able to speak by the age of 11. Then, at 18, he learned to read and write ! Therapists and career advisers predicted he would spend his adult life in assisted living and require lifelong support. Instead, through personal determination and the support of family and close friends, he went to college, trained as a teacher, and then launched his academic career while hiding his condition. 📚He began to write in his late teens, supported by his mentor, college tutor and close friend, Sandro Sandri. Throughout his life he published three books of academic work, mainly focusing on race and education; and, most importantly to him, raised more than £5m by doing charity work. In 2021, Arday became a Professor of Sociology of Education at the University of Glasgow’s School of Education, making him, at the time, one of the youngest professors in the UK. 👨🏾‍🏫🇬🇧Jason Arday believes in destiny. At 27, while studying for his PhD, he wrote a set of personal goals on a bedroom wall at his parents’ home. One of these is : “One day I will work at Oxford or Cambridge”. Well, he wasn’t wrong because at 37 he became professor of sociology of education at Cambridge. A wonderful story about perseverance !Source : The Guardian📸 The Guardian / Jason Ardray Follow us for more positive news ! I🍀 by @thebrightside.official

In the middle of the Pacific Ocean lies the world’s largest mass of plastic. To tackle it, The Ocean Cleanup has devised huge floating barriers that sweep the ocean’s surface. The most advanced system cleans an area the size of a football pitch every five seconds, whilst interceptors trap waste directly in rivers. By March 2026, the total had exceeded 50 million kilos removed. The goal:to rid the seas of 90% of floating plastic by 2040.🎥 @theoceancleanup Subscribe for ➕ positive action ! 🍀 by @thebrightside.official
