I’ve been hit with charges for a safe I didn’t open or a gym I never saw. Before checking in, I always ask the clerk what extras might pop up—like resort fees for the pool or Wi-Fi that’s not free. At checkout, I go over the bill line by line and call out anything off, like a safe fee I didn’t sign up for. Hotels might push back, but if you hold firm, they usually drop it. Resort fees cover things like fitness rooms or internet, even if you skip them. Wi-Fi charges still happen at some places, which is wild. Safe fees can sneak in too, just for having one in the room. These deals can stretch from 1 to 7 nights, depending on the airline. Some even hook you up with discounted tours or transfers to make it even better. Skyscanner’s ‘everywhere’ = cheap routes... But first, follow @travelmore.payless for more budget travel tips! Taking a different route can cut your flight costs big time. I had to get from Miami to Sydney, and Kayak showed $1200 for a 21-hour slog. Then I tried Skyscanner’s ‘everywhere’ option instead. First, I found a flight from Miami to Oslo for just $178. From Oslo, I searched ‘everywhere’ again and saw $20 flights to spots around Europe. If you’ve got time, you could hang out in those places. Kept scrolling and found Oslo to Bangkok for $199. From Bangkok, I searched one more time and got a flight to Perth, Australia for $106. The one to Sydney was $144, still a solid deal. Total came to $178 + $199 + $144 = $521.
