You can’t hide in San Francisco - I stumbled on the Ferrari Luce being shot downtown today. It’s an interesting shape. It’s definitely not hideous, but I can say that in person, absolutely nothing about it reads Ferrari. I’m sure the reaction to the Dino 308 GT4 was the same in the early 1970s. That Gandini design looked like a Lamborghini Urraco or Lotus Esprit, and nothing like any other Ferrari. Sounded nothing like a Ferrari - or anything else, either, thanks to the first postwar flat-plane-crank V8. Was it bad? Well, I own one. It’s magical. One of my favorite Ferraris of all time and one of the best-driving cars in the mid-engine V-8 lineage it started. But I’m not sure a 5-passenger crossover is what customers expect from Ferrari. The closer a Ferrari is to a transportation device (and the farther from a rolling sculpture to sex appeal) the less it’s valued in the market. And this one is a transportation device first and foremost. IOW if this were the 1980s, Ferrari would have made a minivan instead of an F40? Just not the decision I’d make for that brand. #Ferrari #Luce #FerrariLuce
I love what Tech has done in NIL era, investing everything they’ve got to be great. But this is too far. At some point rules have to matter.
