1926 Chalet bungalow, was meant to be a extension & renovation. 🏠 Ended up knocking the whole place down apart from 3 little walls and rebuilding it.

POSTS STORIES REELS

Throwback clips.

2016 we bought this chalet bungalow, we only wanted to extend it but we ended up knocking most of it down and had to rebuild it, doing most of it ourselves learning as we went along, plumbing, plastering, rendering, wiring, tiling, floor laying, plus so much more.
For ages we regretted buying this house coming from a new build but now it’s paying off with just a few more jobs to do we can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

No carpet for a 7 long years came to an end yesterday, new furniture all built and now in, what a feeling to feel carpet on our bare feet 🤣

Also first time on a bed in 7 years and what strange feeling when getting up in the morning and not having to climb off the floor with a bad bad 😭
Not everyone’s cup of tea painting ceilings the same as the walls but fancied something different.

The en-suite is finished, just some small bits n bobs to get, we went for a concrete basin and oil rubbed bronze fixtures and a travertine style tile.
This was an absolute pain to do and one of the worst jobs I’ve done on the house.
I started it about 2 years or so ago and just kept putting it off when problems arose.
I had to dig out walls because I didn’t think about the waste pipes etc when doing the other bathrooms mainly because I’ve just been winging it through the whole build, fitting a 3m vent pipe up the side of the house on a ladder on my own was fun, the fluted tiles were a nightmare to grout and I didn’t realise how awkward it would be to miter them, I run out of tiles and needed 10 more but because I’d ordered them around 2 years ago the tiles they sent were 3mm bigger so I had to trim them down but the finished edges didn’t look the same so I tried hiding them 😫 had to get the glass cut to size to match the ceiling, building the pocket door was also a nightmare and never again, plus loads of other issues but it’s done.
Not used it yet even though it’s been finished for about a month.

Since knocking the house down in 2017 and moving back in December 2018 ( a bare shell ) we’ve had no carpets upstairs, we have carpets being fitted this December so we decided to redecorate all the bedrooms upstairs again even though they were decorated a few years ago, I blame the kids and their oculus’s.

This is the youngest boys room done in Farrow & Ball Studio Green ( looks black which is annoying ) got to get the guitars on the wall and then the new furniture in and he’s sorted.

The original plan was to have cedar cladding on the top part of the gable to match the summerhouse but thought I’d try to blend render into old render to save money and use it elsewhere on the house and if it looked bad I’d just suck up the cost of cedar and go for the cladding like we originally planned.
It was a right pig doing this on my own and I’m not 100% happy with the join line between the old and new but I think it will do and doesn’t stick out like it did at first x 2 blending attempts ( might blend a little more yet ) I ended up using a paint roller to blend it then the plastic float to flatten it and it worked 😆 Filled the mortar joins first then the base coat with mesh then a 1.5mm top coat. The colour was also different due to the render being old and new so I used the roller in some watered down render and the colour in the watery render covered the old render so they now match.

En-suite ceiling plastered in Aquapanel airless plaster but by hand ( was a pain in the arse ) Aquapanel flooring laid along with the tray. Just the lower wall to do in Aquapanel which is a 15 min job then tanking and tiling.
Slowly getting there while doing other jobs on the endless list this house gives us.

Been super lazy over the last year or so, I lost all motivation to do anything on the renovation but I’ve finally found the get off my arse button to carry on.

The En-suite is getting done, we are going for a concrete basin with a teak unit and oil rubbed bronze fixtures and fitting with fluted tiles.
It’s been a total pain so far and the hardest bathroom I’ve had to do which is sort of why I couldn’t be asked to start with but managed to overcome some awkward situations and now I can see the light at the end be of the tunnel.

Spare living room done, maybe some pictures and a side table to make it feel less empty. Went for no architrave around the door on this one and kind of like it.

Finally got round to fitting the last of the architrave and skirting boards in the hallway, bathroom, spare front room and living room. The hallway was a pain because the architrave was too wide for the centre part so I had to cut the edges off and Hope it looked ok.
We had some wall slats left over so stuck them in the bathroom for now but feel it needs more slats to look right.
The spare front room has no architrave due to it being such an awkward door which I’m unsure about at the moment.

Finally got round to fitting our light, spent months looking for a light that wasn’t just a normal straight down light and slightly hung more to one side mainly because the island isn’t where it was going to be and the cables / hole for the light are now in the wrong place, found this light abroad and when it turned up it wasn’t how I thought it would be so the hole and cables had to still be moved ( what a pain ) we had to build a small tower over the island so I could re do the cables / hole because I didn’t want to stand on the island.

New sofa and chair arrived, you can’t really see the texture of the leather but it’s a worn raw hide. Unsure how to position it at the moment but all we need to find are lights then we are done in this area.

Back in October I asked @specialitytimber to make me a table but it had to be from a single piece of oak so they found me this slab
( pic 10 ) & got to work on turning the slab into this stunning table & bench set.
They turned up this morning & put one more coat of oil on then started buffing the table up & said oh by the way there looks like a letter F is on the table ( pic 9 ) & a few months ago my grandad passed away & left us money & we used some of it on this table & his name was Frank.
My grandad was from up north & this table also come from up north so we see it as a sign 😇
