I’m Ale, or Tata Alejandro de Santiago, a traditional medicine medic - the official title in Mexico - an aj’qij (Mayan Daykeeper or priest).

I grew up surrounded by the love for ancestral cultures that my father instilled in us, and by Istmeña grandmother’s herbal teas. Although Part of my blood is indigenous, my family lost much of our ancestral knowledge… But when I returned from California — where I studied film and worked in advertising — Indigenous medicine found me 26 years ago, and my life changed completely.

Since then, I have walked alongside Indigenous Elders, learning from and sharing their wisdom.
I also collaborate with NGOs, governments, institutions, and companies — including Fundación Dondé, Festival Cumbre Tajín / PUIC UNAM, ROCHE, and Fundación Justicia y Género — to bring visibility to this knowledge.

One of my áreas of focus in my practice is the Soul Retrieval or the healing of traumas and emotional impacts or wounds.

The other is to support people in becoming aware of their bat’z or thread of destiny, so they can weave lives with greater sense of meaning and purpose on their path on Mother Earth, according to their mayan chumil. And bringing vitality, creativity, impetus to create and give life to our projects, ideas, visions.

I work with traditional medicine clinics in Oaxaca that help make these practices accessible to the public, lead ceremonies, and give talks in communities and organizations. I also hold postgraduate studies in Mesoamerican Studies from the Center for Archaeoastronomical Studies, accredited by ENAH.

One of my intentions is continuing to bring this wisdom wherever possible — planting seeds, weaving networks, and above all, learning and sharing. by @1ukush

In autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananda I read of a person who loved by a rule of not lying or not being dishonest. Found that relieving and interesting, because of how today truth gets so easily manipulated into dishonesty. by @1ukush

Cacao has a deeper relationship to humans than you may think. Unfortunately, what we hear most about it are basic superficial bits of data - some of it not even being true- if you want to go deeper into the cosmology that holds cacao (and everything else alive), sacred , join our Cacao Council. DM us “CACAO” and we’ll send you the deets. #cacao fern.apotheca thestill.collective #cacaocouncil #cacaoworkshop #chocolateworkshop by @1ukush

Dreams can serve as guiding forces. There is a whole way of understanding and working your dreams through indigenous methodologies and tools. #dreamlanguage by @1ukush

In the Greco-Roman world dreams were diluted to a science. Artemidorus spent his life traveling to get info on how different cultures from ancient Rome to Asia worked with dreams. How dreams had to be interpreted individually and dream symbols were not completely universal. Indigenous wisdom has many tools and methodologies to help understand our dreams and its messages, how to work with them through practical ways and use them as a tool for self knowledge. We are offering a 7 week workshop on this. DM us the word “DREAM” and we’ll send you the details #dreams #dreamworkshop #indigenouswisdom #languageofdreams by @1ukush

Human justice has gone the opposite direction from the justice of the natural world, of the cosmos… a justice based on balance and respect. Indigenous cultures show how understanding and living of this justice brings much compassion, real wellbeing and overall sense of fulfillment. by @1ukush
