Did you know that vertigo can be one of the most debilitating symptoms of Ménière’s disease?

For people living with Ménière’s, episodes of vertigo can be sudden and unpredictable, affecting daily activities and quality of life. And while Balance Awareness Week may have ended, the conversation around balance and vestibular health continues.

That’s why we’re continuing to raise awareness of Ménière’s disease and the realities of living with this often misunderstood condition. We’re also proud to be part of Unheard: The Ears of Ménière’s, an independent documentary currently in production that explores the realities of living with Ménière’s disease through the voices of those experiencing it firsthand and experts in the field, including our own Dr. Kevin Peng of the House Ear Clinic.

This video was created specifically for social media awareness in connection with the Unheard project and does not contain footage from the documentary.

We’re proud to be part of a new documentary, Unheard: The Ears of Ménière’s—a visceral and haunting exploration of an invisible illness, told through the ears of those who often suffer in silence.

Unheard is an independent film currently in production, produced and directed by entertainment industry veteran Janine McGoldrick, who was diagnosed with Ménière’s in 2013. The film shares powerful firsthand experiences to bring greater awareness, understanding, and empathy to vestibular disorders. Janine's mission is to elevate Ménière’s public consciousness and drive more funding for research.

To date, the production has filmed both individuals living with Ménière’s and experts in the field, including our very own Dr. Kevin Peng of the House Institute Foundation, as well as Guy Kawasaki, Nicolle Cure, and Glenn Schweitzer.

For those who have hearing and vestibular issues, it's important to protect yourself from further damage.

And for those that don't, trust us you don't want it.

Take whatever precautions you can -- vaccines, masking, clean air etc.

Making a five minute film in five days…no problem! 🎬✨

In this special bonus episode of The NYWIFT Podcast, host Janine McGoldrick (@2ndchapterprod) sits down with filmmaker Anna Pakman (@annatated) to talk about her short film Back to the Dark Ages (@darkagesfilm).

A sharp, imaginative dramedy, the film uses humor and surrealism to explore chronic illness, isolation, and the long-term impact of Long COVID.

Created for the Easterseals Disability Film Challenge (@disabilityfilmchallenge), Anna also shares why inclusive storytelling—both in front of and behind the camera—is essential, and how initiatives like this are opening doors for disabled creators.
