🎯 Himizu; where the spirits of Fire (hi) and Water (mizu) face off in a duel to determine the fate of the forest clearing. Fire’s objective is to have all 16 squares filled with fire/charred tiles. Water’s mission is to wipe all 3 of the fire spirit meeples off the board.
If there is no clear winner by the end of round 10, water automatically wins.
You will be using tokens (spirit stones) to pay for your special abilities, they will pass between players when you use them so use them wisely. Your own spirit stones will have a power of 2 and your opponents stones when in your possession will have a power of 1.

🔥 If you enjoy 2 player duelling abstract strategy games, I think this is a really good option.
💧 The rules are quick and simple, there are handy player aids to help you understand your asymmetric powers and further clarifications within the rulebook. You are also given an aid to explain order of actions and what spaces you would be able to move on. These were really helpful reminders!
🔥 The action economy is really interesting, you can't perform a special ability without giving your opponent a bit of a boost as you will be passing along a spirit stone to them in order to carry out your abilities. So playing them at the right time is key.
💧 It is fun to play as both spirits, they have completely different objectives and powers.
🔥 The components are really nice. There are 2 sides of the board, both function in the same way but one is a forest floor and the other is a lovely cherry blossom theme. I really like the meeples, they are nice and chunky and have a great table presence. The box is nice and compact too which is always a big bonus for me.
💧 It doesn't overstay its welcome, some abstract strategy games can leave you in long stalemate situations but Himizu will end after 10 rounds no matter what.
🔥 Overall, I really enjoyed this! It's thinky, it's quick with plenty of strategic depth.
