The last Gada I swung in Varanasi this year.
It was a solid 20kg Iron Gada , couldn't miss the opportunity. 🙏🏾
.
Its been a year since my injury. And while I flow a lot, heavier swings had been kept away for a while, cause I kept feeling like I couldn't. My tricep extension was weaker due to the nerve injury, by a lot. However, on this day, my body was ready to push for it. And we did it. You can watch me struggle through this one. But its gotten easier since. 🦍
Thanks to consistent training, good sleep and the akhada energy!
Movement is nutrition, eat well! 🔱
.
Now to make this a part of my diet I need a 20kg Gada. 😅

This Akhada stole my heart! 🤍
.
This special Akhada, Kesari Nandan , also called Gada Dhari 108 @ajayrai1320 , located in a small village outside Varanasi, is a really special place. Home to both the youngest and oldest pehlwans I've met.
.
I walked in, hoping to meet some pehlwans, I was thoroughly surprised to meet these young kids who are redefining the Pehlwan.
The youngest student here is 3 years old, the oldest student in their 20s. And the master is 98. 🔱
They have about 75 students coming everyday.
The unique part about this place is that about 70% of the students are girls.
The guru here makes sure this is a space that helps them both mentally and physically. The students spend 2 hours studying and an hour atleast of training everyday.
.
Some of them have only just started learning to swing and their technique is impeccable. At younger than 15 years they are able to swing 20kg gada for 50 + reps without breaking a sweat.
They swing so well, you'd think they've been at it for years. This shows the level of knowledge and training the guru offers. 🙏🏾
.
The visit to this Akhada has been supremely life-affirming. Its incredible what they are building here.
.
The guru Sanjay, is an incredibly skilled but humble man who wants to give the best possible training and life he can for his students. Hes been teaching for 30+ years. He even makes sure they learn things that the schools might skip out.
.
They hope to make Gada swinging into an international game someday. Standardize it and globalise it, Make it accessible to everyone. In his highly capable, highly calloused hands, it's entirely possible! And we should all do the most we can to grow this sport! 🙏🏾🔱🤍

So grateful to witness this with @santimaceflow
And @the.flowing.dutchman.Truly Inspirational! 🥲

I aim to be this able at 98. 🙏🏾
.
The man behind the Guru of Gada Dhari 108 @ajayrai1320.
He is now a man of few words, his swinging does all the talking for him.
Perfect swinging technique. He makes this 10kg gada look effortless. Smooth reps. No sweat. He swings upto 20kgs to this day.
Skills passed down from father to son. And the vision with which guru Sanjay now runs this Akhada is just incredible.
.
His years of swining and training in the akhada have clearly paid off.
All the work we put in today is our health insurance, hoping it pays off someday.
Here's living proof you can swing gadas and maces and joris gracefully as you age.
The secret sauce here, is just consistent movement.
.
May we all grow and learn what we need to to age this gracefully! Truly inspiring! Truly one of the Kings of the Swing! 🙏🏾🔱🔥

My first swing at Naga Panchami festival in Varanasi! 🐍
.
The day started with some rain, which caused the mud around the akhada space to be slippery as heck.
But thats doest stop these phelwans! They swing 40+ kgs in this condition! Such incredible skill and indomitable spirit! 🔱
.
Thank you @swaminath_ke_pehelwan_ and @sankatmochanmandir! For this celebration!
