Accounts by James Riker Jr., from the Annals of Newtown, 1852 and reconstructed historical maps courtesy of Eymund Diegel can help us imagine the rich environmental history of Greenpoint's waterways and inform decisions we make about how to address future flooding in our neighborhood. Come and learn with us (and discover more historically rich materials) this Thursday, November 5th 6:00-7:30pm. Registration encouraged. Spots still available! Featuring: ➡Climate activist Sara Gronim of @350Brooklyn ➡Historian of waterways Eymund Diegel and ➡Nick Nyhan of @thecitysponge. by @350brooklyn
🎉 Nearly $3k raised! A big thank you to everyone who supported our Rise to Action Auction and to Kathy Malone for welcoming us into her home for the wrap-up party. It wasn’t just a celebration, it was an afternoon packed with climate action too! Cassidy and Lucas Judd made name tags for everyone, our Plastic-Free team invited guests to write messages, tuck them into plastic water bottles, and mail them to Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, and we all filled out postcards urging Governor Hochul to sign the SUNNY Act. Add in good food, great company, and a room full of people ready to take action, and it was a pretty wonderful way to close out the campaign. Thank you to everyone who donated, bid, organized, volunteered, and joined us. 💚 And stay tuned — our next fundraising event is coming in the spring! by @350brooklyn

How does our history predict our future? Why does Greenpoint experience flooding during rainy weather? Join us Thursday, November 5th 6:00-7:30pm for a panel discussion tackling the questions of why Greenpoint floods and what we can collectively do about it. The panel features climate activist Sara Gronim of 350Brooklyn, historian of waterways Eymund Diegel and founder of The City Sponge Nick Nyhan. Whether you rent, own a home, or operate a small business, flooding matters. We are in unprecedented territory as the world heats beyond human experience due to climate change and extreme weather becomes our norm. Yet we have solutions when we work together. RSVP encouraged. This panel is part of Flood Ready Greenpoint, a series of events hosted with @350brooklyn, a volunteer-driven group that mobilizes people to take effective local action to address the climate crisis.
