It's been a minute - baby Aida to today in 16 years! 16 years of tip, research, talking about phthalates, BPA and more, discovering amazing companies and Founders and experts... and you guys!!! For those who have been here for the ride: I appreciate you all so so much. 💕💕 by @3littleplums

Do you take your shoes off at home?
If so, when did you start?
What has been the hardest part?

For me I started about 17 years ago when I lived briefly jn Singapore! I remember seeing everyone’s shoes by the door ( often outside) and, while at first I was amazed no one stole the shoes ( I grew up in Venezuela where this would for sure have happened!) After a while I realized how smart this was and how much sense it made!

Through the years my main obstacle has been :
1. When grandparents stay with us, since they weren’t used to taking their shoes off ( but now they all remember and sometimes travel with indoor shoes or slippers)
2. When workers come to fix things around the house ( single use booties are an option but I suspect some waterproof ones contain PFAS so its hard to source some that def dont)

But- particularly with small children in the house- it is really one of the most important and easiest things you can do to reduce their exposure to toxins! by @3littleplums

If you love holiday pjs - either for the kids or for the entire family, I have great news for you: I found 11 different brands selling Holiday PJs made with organic cotton..... no polyester and obviously no flame retardants.⁣
⁣
Even better news? Some are on sale for under $20 ⁣
⁣
My trick? I usually buy them one size bigger so that they can use them for two years in a row 😆 Anyone else do that?! ⁣

Comment TOY 🧸 for links to our vetted safe toy brands

Before you start buying for Christmas we felt to share what guides our decision making from a toxicology perspective.

As mamas we don’t stress hard plastics with our older kiddos, think magnetic tiles and Lego etc, what we do recommend however is that you think about your younger kiddos and especially your teething babies!

Not only are their bodies smaller, their lungs less developed and their skin thinner (increasing exposure overall), they put EVERYTHING in their mouths 🤦‍♀️

We hope this helps you feel good about your gifts this season for your littles ♥️♥️♥️♥️

⁣
Microplastics are in our bodies. But are they harming us?⁣
⁣
A new 2026 study published in Nature found that microplastics can react with water to generate highly reactive molecules capable of damaging cells. This reveals a potential mechanism for how microplastics may harm our health, although the extent of harm in humans is still being studied.⁣
⁣
After 16+ years of low-tox living, one thing I’ve learned: understanding WHY something matters makes healthier habits easier to stick with. It’s not just about being told what to avoid.⁣
⁣
What about you? Does understanding the science make you more likely to change a habit? 𝗟𝗲𝘁 𝗺𝗲 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗳𝘂𝗹👇⁣

Here’s why I love them:⁣
⁣
➡️3 lighting modes: Designed to mimic changing natural light throughout the day.⁣
➡️Red nighttime lighting: Helps reduce exposure to blue-rich light before bed, supporting natural melatonin rhythms.⁣
➡️Flicker-free design: Minimizes rapid light fluctuations found in some LED bulbs.⁣
➡️Low-EMF: Designed to minimize electromagnetic field exposure.⁣
⁣
Important: 𝘕𝘰𝘵 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘣𝘶𝘭𝘣𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘧𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘳-𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘦! The color of the light alone doesn’t tell you whether it flickers.⁣
⁣
𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼𝗼! A 2011 study found that regular room lighting before bed shortened melatonin production by about 90 minutes.⁣
⁣
Sleep is foundational to low-tox living. While we sleep, our bodies repair, regulate hormones, and support natural waste-clearance processes in the brain.⁣
⁣
Sometimes supporting our health starts with something as simple as changing the light. ⁣

That soft, cozy sweater? 🧶 It might be mostly PLASTIC.⁣
⁣
Polyester, acrylic, and nylon are 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦, particularly in adult & kids’ sweaters!⁣
⁣
From shedding microplastics to potentially concerning dyes and chemical finishes, what we wear matters for low-tox living, too.⁣
⁣
I prefer wool, cashmere, and cotton whenever possible. Yes, they cost more, but buying less ( choose 2 wool cottons vs 5 synthetic ones), shopping secondhand, and passing pieces down helps!⁣

The scariest Halloween decoration might be hiding something you didn’t expect. 🌽👻⁣
⁣
Those beautiful dried corn stalks we see everywhere in the fall can harbor an unwanted guest: 𝗠𝗢𝗟𝗗.⁣
⁣
Researchers have documented fungal growth on corn leaves, stalks and husks, especially after exposure to wet or humid conditions.⁣
⁣
And when moldy decorations are brought indoors and disturbed, spores can become airborne, potentially affecting your home’s air quality.⁣
⁣
My tip: Before bringing dried corn stalks inside, inspect the leaves, husks and stalks for signs of mold. If you spot any, skip them!⁣
⁣
🍂 Share this with a friend who loves decorating for fall. They might want to check their corn stalks, too! #halloweendecorations #fallvibes #momlife by @3littleplums

Rainy days should mean puddle jumping, not worrying about what’s in your kids’ rain gear! ⁣
⁣
The good news? New laws are pushing PFAS (forever chemicals) out of children’s clothing. 𝘉𝘶𝘵 rain and snow gear can still fall through the cracks.⁣
⁣
I’ve rounded up my favorite PFAS-free, lower-tox rain gear for kids so you can spend less time researching and more time letting them splash!⁣

Yes, small steps do add up! ⁣
⁣
Want to take it a step further? ⁣
93% of people ages 6 and up have detectable levels of BPA in their urine … I have tested my levels twice and I do not... how am I in the remaining 7%?⁣

⁣
Wondering why BPA is important to avoid? ⁣
👎even very small amounts of BPA can have biological effects.⁣
👎Hormone disruption: BPA is an endocrine disruptor that can interfere with estrogen and other hormonal signaling.⁣
👎Brain and reproductive development: BPA exposure is linked to concerns about fertility, brain development, and behavior, particularly during pregnancy and childhood.⁣
👎Metabolic and heart health: Studies associate higher BPA exposure with increased risks of obesity, insulin resistance, and cardiovascular disease, although causation isn't fully established.⁣
⁣
Bottom line: it is worth the small steps!! #lowtoxliving #momlife #momofgirls by @3littleplums
