a coil pot i made in my ceramics class in high school, i call her "Jonélle" and she is inspired by Mayan masks with the spiral eyes
😵‍💫🔮👹🧿
coil pots are made by rolling out clay into long worm shaped coils and connecting them together. you stack multiple coils, and fuse them together from the inside of the pot🏺🪬
she is one of my favorite pieces to this day and i am so happy i have been able to keep a plant alive in her!! i purposely picked an aloe plant that i thought resembled big hair, and she has a drainage hole under her eye which makes it look like shes crying sometimes🥲 her stretched earlobes are inspired by depictions of the Buddha with his long droopy earlobes👂🏼☸️

shes not for sale, i love her far too much💚💙 by @4lyssa.art

happy st pattys!🍀💚☘️🍻

nothing too crazy but i thought my makeup was cute today so i took some pics of it, (wish id done so at the beginning of the day instead of the end, but i kinda like the smudgy look anyways) swipe to the end to see me doing those eyes when anime characters go insane lmao

makeup is an art form i did not get into until more recently in my life, i have really only been doing it for like 3/4 years now and i havent done much experimental/ editorial makeup even though i love it, mostly because I like to have an occasion to wear my look to and that causes it to come out rushed anyways and then i forget to take pics lol💚🍀 by @4lyssa.art

a Pop-Art themed piece i made for my mixed media class: "Pink Platforms" 💓👠💋

it is about loudly embracing femininity, and the mental as well as physical process of getting ready to step outside as a woman (it takes more than a man would think!)
after buying my pink lamoda platform boots that can be seen in my first post, i was very inspired to make them into a pop art piece. i thought that they would look really cool in the bright color palette and bold lined style of pop art, and i like to think i was right about that haha💖💅🏼👠

this piece is not for sale, but i could change my mind for the right price! $125 minimum, dm if interested!💓 by @4lyssa.art

the complete LGBT+ pride mask series!!🏳️‍🌈💖🌈

i made this set for my sculpture class, and i am extremely proud of it!🥰
during last semester i came in for practically every studio day i could and put a lot of my time and effort into these pieces, and i think that the quality of them reflects that🌟💓
this was my first time working in 3d with the human face, and it was a super fun experience for me! when you create a face from scratch, it is very different than trying to replicate one that already exists. as your piece becomes more realistic, it feels as though you are imbuing your own life into it- which is a very intimate experience. you notice all the little things that make faces seem human: the imperfections in our skin, the asymmetry of our features, little accents and highlights of color that make it look alive.
i have always wanted to work with the human form, and this was a great way for me to become more familiar with faces. i definitely plan to work with more human anatomy in the future!☠️🤍 by @4lyssa.art

Ziggy! WIP pics⚡️❤️‍🔥💫

i had never worked with plaster before this and it was actually a super fun! we started by coating the inside of a face mold with vaseline, and then mixed and poured the plaster in and let it sit and dry for about 2 days.🌬
then i took it out of the mold and began carving it into the shape of Bowie's face. this is the opposite of how i normally work, as it is carving away at something that already exists as opposed to adding onto or creating something anew like sculpting with clay. it was stressful because if i made a mistake it would not be as easy to fix it like it is with clay or acrylic painting, but at the same time the repetitive motions of carving were kind of calming. i used a picture of another plaster sculpture of bowie as a reference, and i was surprised by just how pointy and angular his features are. his sharp nose and high contoured cheek bones, as well as his slightly downturned eyes made his face instantly recognizable, even without any paint on it yet.🤍
i started with the lighting bolt, and creating this took a while because of how precise yet bold the lines are. making straight looking lines is hard enough, let alone on a 3d canvas, but i think i managed!⚡️
painting his eyes was fun, because contrary to popular belief, Bowie does not have heterochromia, but he has anisocoria, aka a broken pupil in one eye.👁💚
when looking at the reference picture of ziggy, i noticed that his makeup consisted mostly of different shades of pinks, which was a super fun color palette to work with!!💓🎀
the finishing touch was the falsies, which i think really brought the piece to life- sometimes when i stare at it too long i feel like it will blink at me or something lol
sadly ziggy got a scuff on one of his eyebrows when i brought him home from school😭 i have not yet fixed it but i will, i just need to bust out the acrylics again haha
i am super proud of this piece because i feel that i captured Bowie's likeness in it pretty well!⚡️❤️💫

my first ever plaster piece: "Ziggy!"⚡️❤️‍🔥💫
it is a part if my LGBT+ pride series!🏳️‍🌈💙

David Bowie was a pioneer in the LGBT+ community, encouraging finding power in flamboyance and self love- not to mention his activism towards helping the HIV/AIDS crisis all the way back in the 80s.❤️‍🩹
his style is modern and timeless, and continues to influence and inspire many other artists today✨🪐
i will discuss the creation process and more in my next post!💫❤️‍🔥

this piece is named "oni", i will leave it up to interpretation🩸🖤👹 it is a part of my LGBT+ pride series!🌈🖤

i made it third, using the top half of the plaster face mold and made my clay base. then i wanted to make it look more mask like than like a real face, so i carved the sides and middle of the forehead, as well as the eye holes👺 the horns were fun to make, i did so by twisting a thick coil of clay and attaching it to the forehead, and then carved rings into them♉️
after firing it, i painted it with the karakusa pattern in mind, and i wanted the red to be shiny against the matte black🖤 i thought the white horns worked well, and almost thought of painting them to be more bone looking, but decided against it and also gave them holographic tips🤍✨ for the finishing touch i then adorned it with a ton of blood drop gems, especially highlighting the eyes and horns🩸❤️‍🔥

i call this piece "Crown Jewels"💎✨🧿💚
inspo for this piece includes club kid makeup, and mimes🤡🔷👑
the concept is about the empowerment found through piercings/body modification! it is a part of my LGBT+ pride series!🌈🪲💙

we were initially assigned to make 3 full face masks, but i wanted to make a whole ass head that could stand on its own lol (hence why my other masks are halves of faces!)

i actually made this piece first! i started again with a plaster face mold and used it to make the clay base for the face, i exaggerated the features of it and then let it dry before creating and sticking on the back half of the head and neck. then i cut the top of the head off to flatten it, and made it a round base for it to stand. i initially cut the top of the head off to possibly put a plant in it in the future, but i need to get the right shaped pot for that. then i had to make ears for it, which was easily the hardest part!! i didnt realize how complex ears are😭👂🏼
after firing it, i painted it with club kid makeup in mind, and i was originally going to cover it in holo paper but that was not sticking lol, i eventually decided i liked plain white best with the jewel toned teal🦚💙
i ended up using the holo paper as an accent, along with other jewel toned/silver gems and falsiesss💅💎

natural lighting + WIP pics of "Lust"🧛🏻‍♀️💋🌈✨
this piece was made first using a plaster face model for the clay base, then sculpting the bottom half of the face and neck. next i opened the mouth and shaped it into a smirk, and then added the blood drops, forked tongue, teeth and fangs👅🦷🩸
after it was fired, a fang broke off (as always with my delicate pieces🥲) so i made it a new one out of air dry clay and epoxied it on. i painted it using Tim Curry's face as a reference, and accented it with a medusa placed rhinestone and blood drop gems🩸🧛🏻‍♀️
then i used scrap wood to make my base, and painted it to match the lips.
this piece was especially educational for me because i used welding to make the metal stand from scrap iron! the arts technician taught me how to measure, polish, and use a welding gun to make the metal base fit to my piece. there was sparks flying everywhere and it was metal af!! (literally lol)
after securely gluing the base, i used quick dry epoxy to stick the holographic paper to the tongue👅🌈

inspo for this piece is Tim Curry's lips/makeup in Rocky Horror as well as various vampires🦇 the concept is about the liberation found in sexuality and is a part of my mask series about LGBT+ pride!🌈❤️
