Fast fashion isn’t just hurting the planet—it’s making us sick. Many cheaply made clothes contain harmful chemicals like formaldehyde, lead, and phthalates, which are linked to serious health issues, including cancer. Shockingly, some fast fashion items come with cancer warnings, but most consumers are unaware or choose to ignore them. This toxic cycle is putting our health and the environment at risk. It’s time to slow down, educate ourselves, and make better choices. Your wardrobe shouldn’t come at the cost of your well-being. 🌱

At @507stitches and Sustainably Stoned, we’re addressing these dangers by promoting upcycling and sustainable fashion alternatives. We aim to reduce waste and harmful exposure by reimagining old garments into new, healthier creations. Join us in the fight to protect our bodies and our planet—let’s create fashion that cares for us all. 🌱

Ghana has become a dumping ground for fast fashion due to the massive influx of discarded clothing from Western countries. In markets like Accra’s Kantamanto, millions of secondhand garments arrive weekly, but only a small portion can be resold, leaving the rest to fill landfills or pollute waterways. This cycle of overconsumption harms the environment and local economies.

At Sustainably Stoned and @507stitches , we’re committed to changing that narrative by encouraging upcycling, responsible consumption, and giving new life to old clothes. Our events focus on transforming discarded garments into creative, wearable art, reducing waste, and supporting sustainable fashion practices. Together, we can make a difference for both the planet and communities impacted by fashion’s waste crisis.

@quasheroo thank you so much for the work you do 💚

The textile waste crisis in Ghana is a tragic domino effect. Every week, millions of discarded fast fashion items arrive in markets like Kantamanto. Most of these clothes are poor quality and can’t be resold, leading to massive piles of waste that flood landfills and clog waterways. This pollution not only damages the environment but also creates a burden on animals and local communities. As these textiles pile up, they devastate ecosystems, destroy livelihoods, and fuel a global crisis of overconsumption.

At @507stitches and Sustainably Stoned, we’re working to break this cycle by promoting upcycling and conscious fashion. Instead of adding to the waste, we’re giving old garments new life, reducing environmental impact, and creating unique, sustainable pieces. Together, we can disrupt the fast fashion crisis and create a world where fashion empowers rather than harms.

Stay dangerous @theconsciouslee thank you for the work you do! 🙏🏾

SHEIN may offer cheap clothes, but it comes at a high cost. From unethical labor practices to the overwhelming waste it creates, SHEIN represents the worst of fast fashion. Their clothing is made from low-quality materials, filled with harmful chemicals, and designed to be discarded after just a few wears. This constant cycle of overproduction and waste is devastating the environment and contributing to massive pollution.

At @507stitches and Sustainably Stoned, we’re standing against companies like SHEIN by promoting upcycling and sustainable fashion. Our mission is to transform discarded garments into unique, lasting pieces—because fashion shouldn’t harm people or the planet. Join us in choosing quality over quantity and making more conscious choices for our wardrobes and the world. 🌱✨

A fast fashion piece typically has a shockingly short life cycle, from production to disposal. On average, it is worn only 7 to 10 times before being discarded. Fast fashion brands can churn out new collections every two weeks, which encourages constant consumption. Shockingly, the industry produces 92 million tons of textile waste annually, much of which ends up in landfills. Every year, 85% of all textiles (equivalent to 21 billion tons) are discarded instead of recycled or reused.

The environmental impact extends beyond waste. Producing just one fast fashion T-shirt can require up to 2,700 liters of water, and textile dyeing contributes to 20% of global industrial water pollution. This quick turnover, coupled with unsustainable production methods, puts immense pressure on natural resources and ecosystems.

At @507stitches and Sustainably Stoned, we are fighting this cycle by promoting upcycling and sustainable fashion practices. We transform discarded pieces into something new, giving garments a second life while reducing waste and conserving resources. By slowing down fashion, we can help heal the planet.

Hope to see you all on SATURDAY 9/21/24!
