POSTS STORIES REELS

As I sit here after a walk with Bo around Lamplighter Pond, I hear a train horn in the distance. Bo’s little whines as he sniffs the air around the deck. A brown squirrel chortles in the yellowing Maple. The crunch of drying, fallen leaves, the best kind of soundtrack to an autumn morning.

An excerpt from my practice this morning in Surrendering to the Moment.

Mother Earth,
feeling the tired pull
after a long day in the
summer sun,

Puts on a show
as she undresses
for the long night of
winter.

See, now, the
autumn glow
she leaves
in her dancing
wake-

Colorful confetti
littered on lawns
and streets. Rusts
and oranges
mingle with
purple-hued
browns.

Dusk draws
closer
with each
step.

Ribbons of
bonfire smoke
rise like
incense,
shrouding her
descent.

The sweet smell
of decay from
fallen leaves
carries her
reminder,

Surrender isn’t wasted.

This October…
What if, with wide-eyed wonder, if not simple curiosity, we let go bit by bit and sigh with delight as we enjoy the beauty of this season?

Other acceptable options:
A juicy novel
Rewatching a fall classic
Snacks and a board game

Ideally? Snuggled into blankets and wearing my comfiest sweats.

What’s your favorite rainy day activity? by @__saragrace__

We need places
to be honest
to come apart
to honor
the impact
of our grief.

I’m thankful for spaces like @the_griefroom that welcome us as we are and hold us in the complexity of pain.

If you’re local to the Twin Cities, check out their offerings for supporting your own journey of grief.

(And if a writing group sounds appealing to you, there are still a few spots left to Write with Your Grief on Saturday mornings beginning October 10th).

The light through the trees last night was ✨ m a g i c a l ✨

I’ve always been a chaser of the light, but lately? I just want to delight when it meets me where I am. by @__saragrace__

This is the first year since those early anniversaries that I’ve felt the deep impact of that day.

Probably because I avoided reminders - it being close to home and all.

And yet the thing about grief is that it doesn’t leave. It’s there—ready to remind you what was lost.

I encourage you, if you haven’t already. Go, read stories of those who were lost. Give them witness. Honor the first responders—those who lost their lives on 9/11 and those who lost their lives later due to exposure. Honor their memories. Weep while you do it, if you have to. That’s certainly where I’m at.

Just…
Never Forget. by @__saragrace__

Do you ever find something so delicious and transient that you have to slow down time a little to appreciate it?

That was what this🍁did to me early August (?! Let’s not talk about the timing 😆I was not ready to accept the turn toward autumn quite yet).

Those neon colors and dulling browns creeping in subtly. I couldn’t look away.

I want to do more of this—not necessarily painting, but being present to the shifts happening around me. To slow down enough to notice what’s here and vibrant one moment and will be dull and crinkly the next.

Beauty is here—it’s among us. May we honor it with our attention. by @__saragrace__
