y’all!⁣ (link in bio!🙌) ⁣ it’s here! well, at least Part I 🤓the goal line of this absolute PASSION project of mine may take a minute 😉 ⁣ ⁣ launching the @__wearewell__ weekly newsletter & blog resource on simplifying low tox living!⁣ ⁣ & because the content is too important to wait any longer to share, it’s coming out unedited, no makeup or good lighting setup lol😜, & my own branding & website “skills” or lack thereof 🤣🤣 (because I gave myself a deadline to y’all last week that I’d share by Monday what it is I’m working on! & Raef gave me about 10 minutes after nursery pickup before he insisted we go run outside in search of rain)🫠⁣ ⁣ so, here w e l l. is — perfectly imperfect — just like your transition to a more low tox life can be.⁣ ⁣ this project was born out of receiving one too many DMs from mamas in this community every time I shared some little “non tox” nugget, about how MUCH they wanted to make “better,” “healthier,” more “non toxic” choices when it came to products they were choosing, but how INCREDIBLY overwhelming it felt to navigate & know BS when you see it. that it felt like a freaking MINEFIELD out there.⁣ ⁣ & that it just shouldn’t have to be this hard to want to make a less toxic world for ourselves & our babes.⁣ ⁣ that’s when I realized @__wearewell__ needed to be born.⁣ ⁣ a non toxic life is unattainable. it’s sucks, it’s sad, but that’s the world we live in these days. that impossibility can sometimes paralyze us from even taking small steps.⁣ ⁣ low tox living on the other hand, when you start to simplify what it actually means, when you know what to look for, doesn’t have to be so hard 🙌⁣ ⁣ it doesn’t have to be “all or nothing”, requiring of an insurmountable overnight throwout of everything, it’s one.step.at.a.time.⁣ ⁣ ✔️progress over (paralyzing) perfection (speaking from personal experience on my own journey to low tox living!)⁣ ✔️one little supermarket switch up this week. one little toss out next.⁣ ✔️little steps, as & when you can/when you want. ⁣ ⁣ consider this newsletter the laziest masterclass you’ve ever attended 😎⁣ ⁣ about one of the most IMPORTANT parts of your life. ⁣ ⁣ i’m so glad you’re here.⁣ ⁣ be well,⁣ ⁣ alana by @__wearewell__
& spoiler: I ain’t cool with it 😑 I mean, did you know #3??⁣ ⁣ — Cleanwashing is the new greenwashing: Part 1 —⁣ ⁣ fair warning, I can get a bit fired up on this particular topic 😬 I usually keep it easy breezy & “hey here’s some info & changes I’ve made!” but this dirty little secret really strikes a chord, because,⁣ ⁣ it’s hijacking well-meaning consumers, who actually want to do better by their bodies & their health.⁣ ⁣ & it’s not even the overtly & obviously more toxic traditional cleaners/beauty/personal products! (don’t get me wrong, cant stand those guys either 🤣)⁣ ⁣ & it’s high time for brands & products to stop the #cleanwashing.⁣ ⁣ but since I won’t hold my breath on them waking up with a change of conscience overnight🙄, it’s up to you & me to become our own health advocates💥⁣ ⁣ to know what to look out for & what to avoid with a 10-foot pole.⁣ ⁣ sign up to my weekly newsletter (link in bio!) for simple, digestible, & most important of all easily actionable steps:⁣ ⁣ to learn about what toxins are hiding in the vast majority of supermarket shelves⁣ ⁣ & the knowledge/quick fixes/or simple swaps that will help you reduce your exposure to them.⁣ ⁣ be well,⁣ ⁣ alana⁣ by @__wearewell__
Hi! I’m Alana.⁣ ⁣ In my near-decade personal journey (which quickly became an OBSESSION) with devouring any & every bit of information I could get my hands on as I spiraled into the world of low tox living, I realized very quickly:⁣ ⁣ 💥I had to become my OWN health advocate💥⁣ ⁣ In our ever increasingly toxified world,⁣ amidst slick marketing & gross displays of clean- & green-washing,⁣ & unregulated industries & claims,⁣ ⁣ It’s no longer enough to rely on the “clean” designated aisle in your grocery store,⁣ or trust a little green leaf on the products’ labels,⁣ or even the boldest of claims to be “nontoxic” when their ingredients’ list is anything but 🤢⁣ ⁣ Because this may surprise you, but there ISN’T a regulatory body that permits, vets, or validates these claims. They’re self-defined by…those who are using them😳⁣ ⁣ That’s right: companies around you can slap “clean, safe, green, eco, sustainable, nontoxic, healthy,” you name it on their labels, with zero checks & balances.⁣ ⁣ The only way to know what you’re getting is to flip over the ingredients list & know what to look for.⁣ ⁣ & I hear you — these labels & their infinitely-syllabic ingredients are freaking OVERWHELMING (because I felt this too!)⁣ ⁣ I want to change that.⁣ ⁣ I’m on a mission to cut through the rampant clean washing, greenwashing, & all that “nontoxic” noise.⁣ ⁣ I genuinely believe it’s ALL of our right to know exactly what’s in the products we choose for ourselves and for our families.⁣ ⁣ & more importantly how they impact our health.⁣ ⁣ Sign up to my weekly newsletter (link in bio!) for simple, digestible, & most important of all, EASILY actionable steps:⁣ ⁣ ✔️to learn about what toxins are hiding in plain site⁣ ⁣ ✔️& the knowledge/quick fixes/or simple swaps that will help you reduce your exposure to them.⁣ ⁣ I’m so glad you’re here.⁣ ⁣ be well,⁣ ⁣ alana by @__wearewell__
Here’s what I use👇👇 (& what to look for when you’re buying!)⁣ ⁣ You’ve all heard by now that Teflon/nonstick/any cookware with a PTFE coating is bad for you (it can leach PFOAs/PFAs—the forever chemicals—into your food, & thus into your body)⁣ ⁣ But a lot of the supposed “safer” options are not actually as safe as they appear😱 (annoying I know!)🙄⁣ ⁣ Frustrating as it is, I just avoid anything that sounds too good to be true (options touted as “safe nonstick” like GreenPan, Our Place, etc.). Like my posts on BPA, honestly any chemical that’s going to function similarly, is likely a chemical analog (fancy way of saying it has a similar makeup, which will have similar if not worse effects). I stick (pun not intended but appreciated😏) to what I KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt is safe.⁣ ⁣ (remember, you can pick & choose what “low tox living” choices & changes you make in your life — for me, cookware is a priority as we use it at a minimum 3xs a day, it’s in direct contact with food, which then goes straight into our bodies)⁣ ⁣ 💥MY KEEP IT SIMPLE COOKWARE RULES💥⁣ ⁣ Cookware I trust:⁣ ⁣ 🍳Cast-iron (I love @staub_de & @lodgecastiron — 10% of on @mumzworldcom with Alana10)⁣ 🍳High-grade stainless steel (look for grade 18/10 or 18/8, we mainly use @allclad)⁣ 🍳Carbon steel (I have @madein, who also does great stainless—have one of those too!)⁣ 🍳Glass (@pyrexhome is a classic)⁣ ⁣ Materials I avoid in the kitchen:⁣ ⁣ ❌Aluminum⁣ ❌Copper⁣ ❌Anything touted as “nonstick”⁣ ❌Unglazed clay⁣ ❌Plastic (of course🤢)⁣ ⁣ I often get asked about enamel/ceramic cookware like Xtrema & Le Creuset. I think they’re far better than “nonstick” options, aluminum, plastic etc., but they’re not perfect. ⁣ ⁣ Extensive testing unfortunately hasn’t yet been done, & there’s some preliminary studies (albeit with limitations) that demonstrate leaching of titanium dioxide (which have proven adverse health implications) — I’ll link to them in stories.⁣ ⁣ That’s it. Keep it simple, because if it sounds too good to be true, by the time you start digging, it probably is.⁣ ⁣ Follow @__wearewell for more tips to simplify low tox living 🙌🏻⁣ ⁣ What do you use in the kitchen?👇 by @__wearewell__
⚠️Organic clothing is no longer the “nice to have” for me, it’s a non-negotiable⚠️ Which is CRAZY FRUSTRATING for wallets when these little bodies that seem to grow before our very eyes, are needing bigger sizes constantly! For the most part, buying organic *often* seems way more expensive than non-organic clothing, BUT 💥With a few shifts, I find I actually spend LESS on clothing when I’m really mindful about the WHERE & WHEN, WHAT & HOW of my shopping habits. Here’s what I do to help make buying only organic clothing possible: 🌱Quality over quantity.⁣ I have a minimal “capsule collection” if you will lol — kids don’t need 300 articles of clothing (although I get it, they’re so cute😭) 🌱Smart shopping.⁣ Whenever I need something new, first stop is the SALE section of shops I trust, rather than the NEW IN sections of the giant retailers 🌱Hand me down central.⁣⁣ I’ve found that 99% of the time, the organic clothing I’ve bought from @happybees.shop, @pact, @lullabaeme, @anvibabyco, @hannaandersson etc. generally wear SO much longer & tougher than their non-organic counterparts! My experience has been that the superior quality of organic clothing from retailers I trust means they LAST, proper heirloom qualityThe boys wear the sweetest little hand-me-downs my sister gave me (& I love the nostalgia that comes along with it!) & Constantin is 24/7 following in his brother’s footsteps, ahem, shoes. & shirts. & shorts. & PJs. I’m sure he’ll have a new outfit one day, but that day ain’t today with the #BLW mess lol⁣😜 In case you’ve got shopping coming up for summer, here’s a few codes to help you prioritize your babes (& our planet’s!) while saving a little 💸 at my favourite spots xx⁣⁣ 💚@happybees.shop: WELL10 (10% off)⁣⁣ 💚@lullabaeme: ALANA15 (15% off)⁣⁣ Other local brands I love where you can find some organic pieces (just check the individual item as they’re not exclusively organic, as they focus on sustainable brands & sourcing, many of which are organic!)⁣⁣ 💚@harriandeve: ALANA10 (10% off)⁣⁣ 💚@bowiesstore: ALANA20 (20% off)⁣⁣ Where are your favourite go-tos for organic kids clothing?👇 (original post in reel from @organicmamas💪) by @__wearewell__
Good news Tues!⁣🎉 ⁣ I know the journey to low tox living can often feel overwhelming!😕 & the last thing I want is for people to feel fear / paralysis / defeat of making changes to limit our exposure to the MYRIAD to environmental toxins around us🫤 ⁣ SO! Each week, I’ll share a bit of “good news” in the non-tox / low tox space to keep you going!⁣💪 ⁣ First up this week:⁣ ⁣ 📣 You are in possession of the GREATEST detox machine EVER. Like ever ever. Most brilliant invention of all time. & it’s right there in your own home😮 ⁣ It’s you!⁣ ⁣ That’s right. Our bodies are resilient & equipped to metabolize many toxins.⁣ ⁣ All you have to do? Lessen her load so she can manage what’s out of your control🧘🏻‍♀️ ⁣ Have you heard of the “Toxic Burden” or “Toxic Load”? Swipe 👉 through for a quick explanation & what you can do. by @__wearewell__
y’all, it’s hard enough without the misinformation 😅😂 I’ll dive into this more next week to hopefully help arm you with more tools to decipher all the confusing claims you hear out there, but a mega PSA in the meantime: CHEMICAL 🙅🏻‍♀️ doesn’t categorically mean “toxic”❗️(& “all-natural” doesn’t aaaaalways mean “human safe”). ⁣ sorry I’ve been so MIA (so much heavy stuff going on in my personal life), but plan to be back in action next week here @__wearewell__ sharing **research-based**😅 (& if I don’t share the studies/info behind a certain post or story & you’re interested, always DM me & I can link you directly to them!🤗) actionable insights on how to make low tox living more accessible!⁣ ⁣ & for all those who have sent in qs/DMs, I’ll hope to reply next week! Thanks for the patience 🙏🤍⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ #getWell #lowtoxliving #lowtoxswaps #wellbeing #psa #lowtox #nontoxic #Nontoxicswaps #nontox #nontoxswaps #healthyhome #healthyliving #cleanliving #tossthetoxins #wellness #wellnessreels #mamareels #healthymama #nontoxicliving #hormonehealth #healthyreels #momreels #healthiswealth #hardtruth by @__wearewell__
Try this simple swap to reduce your toxin exposure (& save $$!) How-to below👇⁣ ⁣ According to the FDA themselves, “BPA moves from the linings into the foods during processing & storage.” Big concerns remain about “BPA-free” alternatives as they simply haven’t been studied as much; we have to assume any other chemical substitute would do the same😕⁣ ⁣ The simple swap?⁣ ⁣ 🙌Soak & cook DRIED beans instead of buying canned🙌⁣ ⁣ So easy, just requires a little planning (to combat me having to think/remember lol, I just do a big batch every weekend & pop in glass jars in the fridge/freezer for the week — great for emergency throw-together weeknight meals).⁣ ⁣ & bonus! Dried beans are:⁣ ⁣ 🫘WAY cheaper (particularly if you’re wanting to shop organic!)⁣ 🫘more nutritionally dense (more protein, fiber, iron, potassium & magnesium) & less sodium (canned products notoriously have added salt/sugar)⁣ 🫘more easily digested (the lengthy soaking & cooking in water reduces the phytic acid)⁣ 🫘give you more control over their texture (we’ve all had that overly mushy can before!🥴)⁣ ⁣ HOW TO SOAK:⁣ ⁣ 🫘Rinse beans⁣ 🫘Cover with 2 inches of water (I like add a bit of salt, but sometimes avoid if I know I’m using for the kids meals)⁣ 🫘Let them soak for at least 4 hours or up to 12 hours⁣ 🫘Drain & rinse before using⁣ ⁣ HOW TO COOK:⁣ ⁣ 👩🏻‍🍳Place beans in pot & cover with at least 2 inches of water over low heat⁣ (avoid a strong boil as it can burst their skins or result in mushy/unevenly cooked beans)⁣ 👩🏻‍🍳Stir occasionally⁣ 👩🏻‍🍳The bean variety will determine how long they need to cook (45 minutes up to 2 hours)⁣ 👩🏻‍🍳They’re done when:⁣ —the skin should curl & wrinkle when removed from liquid⁣ —taste testing they should be tender to the centre (not chalky, but not overly mushy)⁣ ⁣ *Tip: toss in ingredients like onions, garlic, herbs, & chiles when cooking; they infuse the dried beans with tons of flavor as they slowly cook & soak up all that aromatic liquid. Even just throwing in basics like an onion & bay leaf will do wonders!⁣ by @__wearewell__
9 out of every 10 people reading this have BPA/BPS in their body.⁣ ⁣ A 2018 study of more than 1,800 adults (in the US) detected BPA & BPS in 95 & 89% of participants, respectively. Exposure to BPA & BPS is far more widespread & pervasive than we realize.⁣ ⁣ Canned goods are a mega culprit. This isn’t to say NEVER used canned goods; see below for 2 quick hacks that will help you reduce your likely exposure to BPA & its chemical cousins.⁣ ⁣ Canned food are insanely convenient when your in a rush for dinner & legumes/veggies are super important for our diet (so it’s better to eat them than just french fries simply because they’re not in a can🙃).⁣ ⁣ Rather than stress about every tin your crack open, 2 tips to reduce potential toxin exposure:⁣ 🫘When possible buy fresh, frozen, or dried food⁣ 💦When using canned ingredients, wash the contents under running water⁣ ⁣ I’ll share a hack tomorrow that has CHANGED my life on this particular topic! Follow @__wearewell__ to make sure not to miss it!⁣ ⁣ See previous posts on the grid for more detail on BPA, but the chemical (& usually its “alternatives”) has adverse effects on the brain, immune system, reproductive system, & metabolic processes.⁣ ⁣ Reference: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6028148/⁣ “Exposure to Bisphenol A, Bisphenol F, and Bisphenol S in U.S. Adults and Children: The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2013–2014” PMID: 29978145⁣ by @__wearewell__
UMBILICAL CORDS!!! This is not ok.⁣ ⁣ Our babies haven’t even set foot on this planet & they’re being polluted (via the pollution of our bodies!).⁣ ⁣ This isn’t meant to scare, it’s to make us more aware. & unfortunately, sometimes the truth is scary.⁣ ⁣ Until companies are more conscientious, until we have more widespread study & research on BPA’s alternative chemical cousins, WE must be the gatekeepers of what goes into our and our family’s bodies.⁣ ⁣ This week I’m going to continue last week’s discussion on the particular toxin BPA (& its BPA-free “alternatives” that are likely equally as detrimental to our health) & actionable tips on how we can avoid it.⁣ ⁣ These hacks & swaps are absurdly easy to implement — follow @__wearewell__ to make sure you don’t miss ‘em! by @__wearewell__
Let information EMPOWER you to make better health decisions for you & your family.⁣ ⁣ Not to make you live in fear.⁣ ⁣ Or paralyze you from change because the quagmire of figuring this all out can feel so insurmountable at times (I know, I’ve been there & it sucks!😣)⁣ ⁣ The fact you’re reading this post, means you’re aware. Changes, no matter how small or how slow, are CHANGES🙌 ⁣ & every.little.one. affects your exposure & subsequent bioaccumulation of all the environmental toxins around us (& the longer you’re at this, the more you’ll realize you’ve learned!)⁣ ⁣ & if you need a little motivation, @__wearewell__’s got your back 🤗🤍⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ #getWell #lowtoxliving #nontoxic #nontoxicliving #lowtox #mamareels #healthiswealth #holisticwellness #holistichealth #healthyliving #dubaimoms #dubaiblogger #nontoxicswaps #mamahood #motherhoodsimplified #tossthetoxins #fyp #nontoxicbeauty #nontoxicskincare #cleanbeauty #mindfulmama #mindfulparenting #motherhoodunplugged #nontoxicproducts #productswap #greenwashing #detox #detoxguide #toxinfree ⁣ by @__wearewell__
“Would you like your receipt?”⁣ ⁣ “No, I most certainly would not.”🙅🏻‍♀️⁣ ⁣ Talk about a quick change to easily reduce your exposure to toxins in every day life.⁣ ⁣ Follow @__wearewell__ for more tips on how to simplify low tox living 🙌⁣ ⁣ I distinctly remember when I learned about this years ago in Rebecca Fett’s brilliant book, “It Starts with the Egg,“ being absolutely gobsmacked.⁣ ⁣ You mean the receipts were being handed all day every day?⁣ One of the biggest sources of BPA/BPS? Straight into the largest organ of our body?⁣ ⁣ HARD PASS from me ever since🤮⁣ ⁣ & if your work requires you to handle these often, know there are alternatives. In fact, @BestBuy was one of the first big retailers to move away from thermal paper & to a non-coded receipt paper – it can be done.⁣ ⁣ Change starts with us 💪 by @__wearewell__
