POSTS STORIES REELS

We are delighted to announce our upcoming exhibition ‘Soft Boy’.

‘Soft Boy’ will present a new body of work by artist Abigail Booth. The exhibition expresses feelings of grief, loss and the re-shaping of identity. Booth, rooted among the rural landscapes of Somerset, considers the land as a place of both rupture and repair, where tenderness and violence, care and labour, softness and masculinity exist in close proximity. Across sculpture, textile and photography, fragments of the body meet raw fleece, horse hair, hemlock charcoal, lead and objects gathered from the agricultural landscape. Moving between vulnerability and restraint, Soft Boy embodies the ways grief takes form in bodies, materials and place, and asks how, after profound loss, our relationships to each might slowly be remade.

Exhibition Opening Saturday 14th November, 1-4pm all welcome !

Our August edition is online now!!

This month sees @laurencebelbinartist remember Saturdays past, Jean Stevens offers a glimpse of Bruton Art societies 73rd annual exhibition @brutonart, and we continue to follow @kevinwilsonphotography and his life-affirming photographic series 100 at 100.

We head to the beach with @simonfordnature, look to the skies with Vic Flintham and trace the poppy from Helmand to Hadspen with Arthur Cole from @thenewtinsomerset. James Hull takes us on an early morning stroll up at @thewildestorycafe, Eleri Horsington from @dorsetmind steers us safely through the summer break, and Dawn Hart @yogasherborne has a suggestion should things heat up again.

Rebecca and Katharine, meanwhile, meet contemporary artist Abigail Booth. From her well-ordered, light-filled Wincanton studio, Abigail reveals the processes, motivation and sometimes deeply personal meaning behind her work. It proves to be quite the journey, and one on which Abigail’s own bees have helped along the way.

Final days to view Abigail Booth’s work as part of ‘Invasive Species’

Curated by danielle mezh | produced by jelena cos

“Invasive species is a curatorial project that explores the dissonance between our inner and outer worlds.

Conceived as an exhibition and a series of interventions that examine the subtle yet potent forces that seep into the psyche, invasive species looks at where the visceral & cerebral converge, diverge, and slip into tension with one another.

Drawing on surrealism, mysticism, the natural world, and the psycho-sensory, the project spans site-specific installation and performance, painting, sculpture, scent, sound, moving image, and gastronomy.

Emerging at a moment defined by disconnection and dissonance, invasive species does not offer resolution. instead, it asks audiences to confront the invasive, and to consider where it is held, how it is processed, and the channels through which it moves through the self and beyond.”

If you’re in London Monday 15 June, join artists @_abigailbooth_ and @francespinnock in conversation with curator @idreamofdidi at @thehouseofkoko

They’ll be hosting an intimate salon conversation where the artists will speak about their inner worlds, creative collaboration, and how material processes hold, distort, and transmit emotional and psychological states.

The talk will be followed by a sensory workshop that includes a blind honey tasting made from Abigail’s own bees from Somerset and a honey-infused cocktail or two 🐝

Tickets available through link in bio👆🏼

Drawing from autobiographical memory and generational histories of smoking, ‘Sweet Burn’ is a manifestation of memory, inheritance, and domestic ritual as they become embedded within the body and psychology. Referencing the enduring history of smoking, the piece embodies layered personal and collective histories as they persist in material culture across time.

Last day of our show in Paris @amelieduchalard ✨

“Prophetic Land” is a poetic response to the changing nature of our complex landscapes and natural environment. Immersed in their relationship to the land and place, artists Max Bainbridge and Abigail Booth have developed a heightened sensitivity to reading the natural world, looking beyond the mask of the picturesque to the environmental collapse of its ecosystems. Their works reflect the paradoxical role humans have played in disrupting the ecological balance, as well as the urgent need to find new ways to reverse this trend.

‘In This Thin Skin’ reflects on the permeability between interior and exterior domestic spaces. Centred around the image of a curtained window, the work looks at the emotional realities and private histories that exist behind closed doors. Constructed from individual gesso panels and painted with pigment made from the ground dust of an original house brick, the piece plays materially and optically with the architecture of the brick house as both protective structure and psychological state.
