Some sets stay with you long after the cameras stop rolling. Anxious Brown Girl will always be one of those sets for me.

Aman wasn’t just another character I played. Somewhere between her fears, her anxiety, and her need to prove that she belonged, I found parts of myself. Her struggles felt uncomfortably close to my own, and playing her meant opening doors within myself that I usually keep closed.

There were days when being Aman felt heavy. It was difficult to be that vulnerable—to bring my own fears to the surface and allow people to see them. But if there was ever a set where I felt safe enough to do that, it was this one.

Our incredible writer and director, Aisha Hamid, gave me the space to understand Aman, sit with her, and find her truth in my own way. She allowed me to be honest, and that is one of the greatest gifts a director can give an actor.

Every person on this set brought their whole heart to this story—our camera and sound teams, production designer, ADs, PAs, makeup artists, costume designer, and producers. Even on the longest and most exhausting days, everyone continued to show up with passion because we all believed in what we were creating.

For 12 days, I woke up knowing I was exactly where I was supposed to be. I was doing what I love, surrounded by people who made me feel seen, trusted, and safe. I don’t think I have ever felt more connected to myself than I did on this set.

Maybe some teams really are brought together for a reason. Maybe some sets really are blessed by God.

I will carry these 12 days with me for a very long time. I cannot wait for you all to meet Aman and to see the beautiful show we poured so much of ourselves into. by @_aisha.hamid_

And that’s a wrap 🎬 over the past month had the opportunity to be the director of photography for @anxiousbrowngirlseries it was 3 weeks of intense shooting and prep and many hard hours on set, to me the most fulfilling projects are those that tell a great story and was happy to be apart of something new and push myself for a 3 weeks shoot! here’s some of my fav memories from set. huge shoutout to @canigetsharps for working so close with me and always putting that extra effort into every project, couldn’t have done it without you!
