…This in-between space can also be the story you tell someday. by @_amaranma

Knowing the difference can save your skin. 👀

I think it’s great that more people are becoming aware of skin purging.

And honestly? Calling every reaction “purging” can sometimes make us continue using products that our skin is actually telling us to stop. 😭

That’s why understanding the difference between purging, irritation, and regular breakouts is so important.

In this video, I break it down as simply as possible and share some important things you should look out for when your skin starts reacting after introducing a new product.

Because your skin deserves more than guessing games. 🤍

Watch till the end…there are a few key things you really need to know.

And tell me in the comments: Have you ever continued using a product because you thought your skin was “purging”… only to later realise it probably wasn’t? 👀

Save this for the next time a new product makes your skin break out, and send it to someone who needs to hear this! ✨

🎀ALLOW ME TO INTRODUCE MYSELF
✍🏽ONYI NWABINELI.
I had SO much interest in this book before I even started it. I was absolutely judging this book by its cover because it is beautiful. And that title? On point.

But the rave with which I went into this book was not the same rave that met me in the middle of it. 😭

When I started, there was A LOT going on. I was trying to understand the different points of view, the timelines, who was who, what was happening, and where exactly the story was going. There were so many characters being introduced at once, and I’m not even someone who has a problem with plenty characters, but in this case, I was genuinely struggling.
Almost DNF’d it, but I’m glad I stayed.

📖Anuri was such an interesting character to follow. Her life, and especially what being a child celebrity did to her were all fascinating to unpack. The story centres on her experience of growing up with her life constantly documented online by her stepmother and her eventual fight to reclaim control of her own story while trying to save her younger sister too from that world.

💭I really loved Anuri’s friendships with Simi and Loki. But I think what I loved most was the family she had unknowingly built for herself, I was grateful for her grandparents too.
Her father, however? 😐
Let’s not even start.

💬What really stayed with me was the book’s conversation around children, social media, and the responsibility of parents and guardians. I found myself questioning whether the money and comfort could ever justify what was being done to Anuri. I also appreciated the inclusion of therapy and how it highlighted the impact of growing up online. As adults, we already struggle with the different versions of ourselves that exist on the internet, so imagining a child having their entire childhood documented and consumed by strangers before they can even decide who they want to be is unsettling. That, for me, was one of the biggest takeaways from the book.

🥸Now that I’ve finished it I can finally go and read other people’s review. Definitely a book that left me with something to think about.

I’ve been thinking about yesterday a lot.

One thing I kept asking myself on my way home was, “What if more spaces in our industry looked like this?”

An event where people didn’t hold back what they knew. Where experienced professionals were willing to share what has worked for them, the mistakes they’ve made, the science behind beauty, the business side of things, and even practical demonstrations that made everything feel real.

I genuinely enjoyed every session, but what stayed with me the most wasn’t just what I learnt. It was the atmosphere.

There were people who had been in the industry for years, people just starting out, aspiring students, and people like me, all sitting in the same room, asking questions, learning, laughing, and connecting. It reminded me that the beauty industry is much bigger than we sometimes make it seem.

There’s room for all of us.

You don’t have to become someone else to succeed here. You just have to become really good at being you and the value you bring.

That was my biggest takeaway yesterday.

And I really appreciated that @bti_portharcourt chose to share so much instead of making knowledge feel exclusive. That kind of openness makes the industry better for everyone.

If you’ve been thinking about joining the beauty industry but don’t know where to begin, maybe this is the nudge you needed. @bti_portharcourt BTI is currently enrolling new students, and they’re running discounted tuition at the moment. 💫 It honestly feels like a good time to start.

I’m leaving yesterday feeling inspired, but more importantly, reminded that learning never really stops. And neither should our willingness to share what we know with the people coming after us. 🤍 by @_amaranma

I experienced June in the best way I could.

Not because it was perfect, but because it was real.

There was so much happening around us. So many people were carrying burdens they never asked for, and I was no exception. It was a month of mixed emotions.

I cried. I laughed. I held on to hope.

And for that, I’m grateful.

Here’s to keeping hope alive. 🤍 by @_amaranma

I think this has to be the book that put me into the biggest reading slump I’ve had this year.

Not because it was boring. Not because it was badly written. Quite the opposite.

Kristin Hannah’s writing is so vivid that you don’t just read about the Great Depression… you feel it. The hunger, the desperation, the uncertainty, the sacrifices. Every page pulls you further into that world until you’re carrying the weight of it alongside the characters.

And honestly? It was painful.
I spent over two months reading this book because I kept putting it down and coming back to it. I even read other books in between just to give myself a break. That’s how emotionally heavy it felt.

The hardest part for me was getting attached, hoping for relief, hoping for some kind of reward after everything the characters endured, only to reach the ending and feel completely shattered. I understand what the author was trying to do, and I understand why the story ended the way it did, but that didn’t make it hurt any less.

This is one of those books that reminds you that not every story is meant to make you happy. Some stories are meant to make you understand.

🏷️This book takes place in 1930’s Texas: the time of Dust Bowl, Stock Market Crash, the very same time when the people suffered from poverty, homelessness, despair, starvation.

🏷️Elsa Martinelli has to make a choice like her neighbors do: she may stay with her two kids and fight for her land or go west to settle in California for better life opportunities.

As a historical fiction novel, this was excellent.

Would I recommend it? Absolutely.

Did I enjoy every moment of reading it? No.

But maybe that’s exactly why it was so powerful.

Without a doubt, one of the hardest books I’ve read this year.

I hate that I have many books I’ve read this year without reviewing them because reviews are my way of preserving a reading experience. They help me remember not just what happened in a book, but what it made me feel.

One of those books is This Thing Called Love by @rehviie Oreva Òde-Irri💛

Two months later, I still find myself thinking about some of the stories.

What I loved most about this collection is that it doesn’t try to give us one version of love. It breaks love apart, examines it from different angles, and asks uncomfortable questions about the things we often mistake for love.

The collection is divided into two parts—Eros and Psyche.

🔴Eros gave me stories of longing, heartbreak, desire, lost connections, and the softer, more familiar versions of love. The kind that leaves you smiling, aching, reminiscing, or all three at once.

But Psyche was where the book truly settled into my mind. 😩

Psyche felt like an exploration of the darker, more complicated sides of human connection. It explored toxic relationships, unhealthy attachments, emotional dependence, and the ways people hold on to things they call love even when those things are hurting them.

Reading it reminded me that love is not every intense emotion we experience. Not every attachment is love. Not every sacrifice is love. Not every obsession is love.

Sometimes, we only know how to give the love we’ve received. Sometimes, we mistake familiarity for affection and pain for passion.

What this collection does beautifully is put those experiences into stories and leave readers to confront them.

The title, This Thing Called Love, couldn’t be more fitting because by the end of the book, you’re left asking yourself: what exactly is this thing we keep calling love?

And maybe that’s why the stories stayed with me long after I finished reading them.

⭐️ One of the most memorable short story collections I’ve read in a long time.

🌹SAND ROSES by HAMZA KOUDRI💫

🫥 This is probably the easiest historical fiction book I’ve ever read, and I don’t just mean because of the pacing.
Sometimes a book can have a great story but still feel heavy to get through… one thing that immediately stood out to me was how easy the book was on the eyes. The spacing, formatting, and overall layout made the reading experience feel light and comfortable.

✍🏽The story follows two sisters, Fahima and Salima, who journey with their mother to Bousaad at a young age to become successful Ouled Naïl dancers. But success, as they soon discover, comes at a cost, and for them, it also comes with a prophecy…their strength, their struggles, and the harsh realities they endured under oppression.

🪆What fascinated me most was the way the author handled the twin sisters. Despite living separate lives, they somehow continued to share similar dreams, desires, and destinies. Watching their journeys unfold was one of the strongest aspects of the novel for me. It was beautifully done and added so much depth to the story.

✍🏽The ongoing conflict between the Algerian resistance and the French colonial forces serves as a powerful backdrop to the novel. It adds weight to the sisters’ experiences and makes their struggles feel even more significant. The book is ultimately about endurance and defiance, but also love, sacrifice, and family. By the end, I felt like everyone got what they deserved, and the story resolved itself in a satisfying way without feeling forced.

🙏🏽I’ve been reading more historical fiction lately, thanks to @hope.etuk.reads and this book reminded me why I enjoy the genre so much. Before reading Sand Roses, I knew almost nothing about the French colonization of Algeria. This book introduced me to a part of history I had never explored before, and I appreciated learning about it through such an engaging story.

🤍Sand Roses is one I would definitely recommend. Hamza Koudri is an excellent writer 🖤.
