I WOKE UP EARLY, DROVE ACROSS BROOKLYN… AND SAID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. 😂🤦🏻‍♂️

A little story about politics, purpose, frustration, and practicing what I preach.

This morning I attended a Brooklyn Clergy Roundtable hosted by NYC Comptroller Mark Levine and Pastor Gil Monrose, alongside faith leaders, community advocates, and elected officials.

I came hoping we’d discuss youth violence, the recent takeovers, and what’s happening inside our detention facilities. I’ve been working directly with young people at Crossroads, Horizon, Rikers, and NYCHA, and I have A LOT of thoughts about what we’re getting wrong — and what’s possible.

But the conversation went in another direction: government inefficiency, contracting, affordable housing, and funding delays.

Important issues, all! So I sat there. Quiet. 🙂‍↕️

Partly because I didn’t want to derail the conversation. Partly because political spaces aren’t exactly my natural habitat. I’m much more comfortable on a basketball court or connecting one-on-one.

And partly because I know myself.

There’s a lot of passion behind this work. Frustration, too. Sometimes anger.

I’ve watched talented young people get caught in destructive environments while organizations struggle for resources, funding gets delayed, and we keep talking about solutions.

We’re in 2026. We have AI, extraordinary technology, and unprecedented resources. Yet we’re still waiting a YEAR for funding? Still operating in silos? Still measuring activity instead of impact?

It’s maddening.

But I also have to check myself.
