Of all the things i could be..
I choose to live wild and free. by @_empress_iya

Until Black, Indigenous People of Color Heal, the World Cannot Heal.

I’ve been to 55 countries, and the one thing I’ve noticed is that there are not enough safe spaces for Black, Indigenous, People of Color to heal.

So, I decided to create one.

Through my travels and by living abroad, I’ve forged deep bonds and trusted relationships with local healers, indigenous Shamans, Curanderos, experienced Medicine Womxn and Men, and highly sought-after wellness practitioners.
I choose to work with only heart-centered,
compassionate people who carry the tools, wisdom, knowledge, and experience to support each person’s deeply personal journey.

We are taking a natural approach to healing — and we are leaning forward into the practices, ceremonies, rituals, and teachings of our ancestors.

What has blossomed from this vision is an organic, highly curated, powerfully authentic experience that’s changing lives by empowering people with the tools they need to remember, rediscover, and tap into their inner-power.

I’m humbled and honored to serve my brothers and sisters, and I’m unapologetic about my mission to do so. When it comes to wellness Black and brown people have been underserved in communities globally. I plan to be at the forefront of a movement that is changing that.

We are taking a radical approach to self-care and self-love, and we are going deep to expand human consciousness and to evict the false narratives that have held us back for too long.

I’m grateful for the beautiful souls who continue to show up for themselves and raise the roof. The love I have for each one of you and the Sumanah Soul Sanctuary team is beyond measure. by @_empress_iya

This week I said goodbye to one of my family members, my beloved Aunt Jae, one of the most compassionate humans I’ve ever known. She left so many flowers in my life.

My Aunt’s home was the epitome of “Big Mama’s House.” Food was always cookin’ on the stove, enough to feed a whole neighborhood. Folks, we’re always comin’ and goin’. She made everyone feel welcome.

Like my Granddad and my Dad, she was a storyteller, the family griot, the keeper of stories and our family history. I can still hear her intoxicating laugh when I lean in and listen.

I found myself challenged in moving the grief out my body. Perhaps it was difficult because there has been so much loss in my family in the last two years.
I found myself feeling numb.

Thankfully, I have gathered so many tools in my own walk that I leaned into the knowing that I needed to move the heaviness in my heart. So, I went to Yoga, I went to the ocean, I lit candles, did rituals, meditated, and even walked in nature, but it was still stuck like a brick in my heart.

Then the day of her service, I put on some of her favorite music and let all the grief move right through me.

We all have our own way of processing and moving grief, but some of us don’t have the tools and we allow it to swallow us into a dark abyss. It’s so important to let our emotions go and to allow the grief to move out out of the body, so it doesn’t manifest into anger or another negative emotion.

A good cry, whaling, letting it go, are all gifts that we’ve been given to cleanse our bodies, to release and let go.

If you’re feeling stuck in your grief, I encourage you to find a healthy way to move it. Dance, sing, cry, shout, whale, fall out, praise, run, walk, journal, listen to music, be creative, meditate, pray, or find support.

Lean in to the gift that is this life and hold the memories with gratitude and love, and allow the light to shine into all the broken spaces in your heart.

If you’re seeking support go to the link in my bio — I am facilitating a Women’s Womb Wisdom Retreat in Tulum in May. We’m be doing deep healing work to as we gather the tools for a healthier life. by @_empress_iya
