I had the privilege of attending the RUSI-TMP event on climate destabilisation and security held during the London Climate Action Week.

There is no doubt that climate change is altering the environment in which military operations occur. With increasingly frequent storms, more intense wildfires, escalating droughts, and floods, armed forces face mounting demand for humanitarian aid and emergency response and relief efforts—even in active conflict zones. Historical examples include U.S. military assistance during Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and the 2008 Sichuan earthquake in China, while the UK National Guard regularly responds to fires and floods.

With these issues projected to intensify over the coming years, proactive understanding is crucial. Anticipating climate-induced hotspots and disruption can ease pressure on logistics, reduce supply chain vulnerabilities, and create a more resilient force.

Yet amidst these challenges lie strategic openings. Climate change is rendering the Arctic more accessible, extending its navigability. A key theme at the event was how defence planners might seize such emerging opportunities while strengthening climate resilience across their operations.

One key takeaway for me was the importance of speaking in your audience's language. Aligning your message with the priorities of decision-makers is the surest way to build understanding and influence action.

Sometimes, you don’t realize how much you need to pause until you finally do. @aixenprovencetourism was more than a destination—it was a breath of fresh air, a quiet reset, a reminder that life should feel lived, not just managed. #TravelWithIntention

It’s not every day you get to visit your PhD industry partner! I took a day out of my brief stay in France to head over to Framatome’s Chalon-sur-Saône manufacturing site for a team meeting and tour. The level of engineering is simply breathtaking—it really puts things into perspective when you see firsthand the problem your research is trying to address.

What stood out to me was how Framatome employs rigorous quality controls at every stage of the manufacturing process. Absolutely nothing is left to chance.

There’s no greater motivation than knowing that people are rooting for you to succeed.

Just toured ITER, and I’m still processing the scale, science, and vision behind it all.

This isn’t just a research facility — it’s a global collaboration aiming to recreate the power of the sun on Earth through nuclear fusion ⚛️

Seeing the tokamak up close and learning about the physics, superconductors, and international teamwork behind it was mind-blowing.

Massive respect to the countries 🇨🇳🇮🇳🇯🇵🇪🇺🇰🇷🇺🇸and everyone involved in this project — the future of clean energy is being built right here.

Feeling inspired, humbled, and more motivated than ever. 💡🌍
