Welcome to 'No More Mush', a fan account all about the stage musical Annie

POSTS STORIES REELS

I started 'no more mush' back in 2019 and ran it without any problems until 2025 when instagram locked me out of the account. No explanation given. I started again from scratch, but that account was deleted within weeks. Again, no explanation. It felt very unfair! This is my third attempt.

Thanks to those of you who have refollowed me. And if you're a new follower, welcome. You can still check out my original account but I don't have access to it anymore. I post about the UK production of Annie and international productions that catch my attention. I create unique Annie artwork too.

I've been running an Annie account of one kind or another since 2017 when Ruby Stokes stole my heart on the West End. If you love Annie, particularly the UK production, then you might enjoy my content. by @_no.more.mush

Happy trails to team Empire State, who took their final bow yesterday. It's been an absolute privilege to watch you perform on stage. Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication. Each of you have breathed so much life into your character and the fans have absolutely adored you!

For me, I will remember Coco's passion and energy; Freya's warmth and sincerity; Olivia's grace and poise; Sienna's enthusiasm and drive; Chloe's sparkle and sass, and Kennedy's dignity and grace. And of course, not forgetting the team's captain, June Young, who to my mind is the greatest Annie in the show's 50 year history. You will always and forever be my number one.

What a team! And it's not just me that thinks so, just ask @itsjojosiwa

To those girls who are leaving the show for good, please know that the fans noticed you. I noticed you. Your contributions will never be forgotten. I am so grateful for the time and effort that you've devoted to Annie UK, you've helped make this tour truly memorable. The 2026 orphans have been phenomenal. Empire State will live on in my memory forever.

And to the girls that are staying. All of the above. I can't wait to see what happens next. Maybe some of you will try a new character, or switch to a new team. Whatever happens, I'm excited to find out! And I know that you'll continue to show the same professionalism, determination and dignity that have made you such a memorable team.

Happy trails, team Empire State ❤️

And to the fans, like me you may be feeling sad that we're saying goodbye to such a phenomenal team. However, there is one final treat to look forward to. Empire State recorded a Christmas special for Blue Peter that will be airing in December. So we'll get one final hoorah with our lovely orphans.

Oh, and to the girls who are no longer under contract, lets spam the internet with backstage pics and gossip. I mean, what can those sourpusses do about it now, am I right? 😉

Better yet, send your pics to me and I can post group photos annoymously. They can't put us all in chokey!

...Haha, just a thought 🤘 by @_no.more.mush

Meet the real Annie. Did you know that the musical Annie can trace its roots back to a spooky poem written over 140 years ago? And that the poem was about a real orphan girl called Mary Alice Smith?

Mary Alice Smith liked her middle name best, so people called her Allie, short for Alice.

Allie's parents died when she was 9 and she went to live with the Riley family in Indiana. The family gave her shelter in return for chores and housework, so Allie had to work.

The Riley family had six children of their own, and Allie became close to them. She would entertain the children with spooky stories about ghosts and goblins. One of the Riley family's little boys especially loved Allie's scary stories. He was called James.

When James grew up, he became a famous poet: James Whitcomb Riley. People would come from miles around to hear him read his poems. One of his poems was all about Allie.

He called the poem 'Little Orphant Allie' - "orphant' is an old fashioned spelling of 'orphan'. Swipe to read the poem. The spooky song playing uses Riley's poem for its lyrics.

The poem is inspired by Allie's scary story telling. In it, she warns that goblins will snatch naughty children away, never to be seen again. The poem’s lesson is to listen to parents and teachers, be kind to others, and help people in need... or else, as Allie warns, “the Gobble-uns’ll git you, ef you don't watch out".

Riley wrote his poem using inventive words that were meant to sound like the accent of people who live in Indiana. His style had a special name: "Hoosier style", hoosier is a name for people who live in Indiana.

Here's the interesting part. When Riley sent his poem to the publishers, they made a huge mistake. Instead of printing the name "Allie", they accidentally used the name "Annie" - Little Orphant Annie.

Riley initially tried to have it corrected, but the poem was becoming popular under the mistaken title, so he let it stand.

James Whitcomb Riley’s 1885 poem inspired cartoonist Harold Gray to create Little Orphan Annie in 1924. More than 50 years later, writers Thomas Meehan, Martin Charnin, and Charles Strouse adapted Gray’s comic strip into the musical Annie . by @_no.more.mush

I am shocked and saddened by the terrible news that Sir Patrick Stewart has died. I sobbed when I heard. It's like losing a part of your soul.

For as long as I can remember, Captain Picard has been my moral compass.

Picard consistently placed integrity, compassion, and reason above power and personal ambition. He led not through fear or force, but through wisdom, empathy, and a steadfast belief in the dignity of every individual.

He was willing to challenge authority, question his own assumptions, and defend even those whose beliefs differed from his own. Picard understood that doing what was right was rarely easy, but that principles mattered most when they were tested.

Ultimately, Captain Picard embodied the idea that true leadership was less about commanding others, and more about leading by example: Having the courage to stand by your values, the wisdom to remain open to new ideas, compassion and respect for others. Valuing intelligence over brute strength. Diplomacy over conflict.

Even today, I approach life's problems with the mantra WWPD - What Would Picard Do? I strive to follow the Captain's example in my daily life. Put simply, he was, and will always be, my hero. The only man I have ever looked up to.

For me, his death heralds the Crossing of the Rubicon. The final straw. The last ember of normal life fading out of existence as we slouch towards an unimaginable dystopia of Government surveillance, facial recognition systems, Artificial Intelligence, and digital ID

Turns out the future was more like Skynet than Starfleet. With Captain Picard also dies hope. These are dark days indeed.

Rest in peace, mon Capitaine. 💔 by @_no.more.mush

Haha, I love this time of year. I get to rehash all my old edits. First comes the Annie/Granny birthday edit (which is 9 years old this year). Originally it had an old lady flipping the bird, but mum talked me out of it, lol

Next comes zombie Ava and Alex on Halloween. Then it's Ruby's birthday (22 this year!) That's followed by the Annie UK anniversary post (it's a big one this year). And finally the sad Christmas edit. ....I'm nothing if not predictable 😆 by @_no.more.mush

Thursday was a very special night for one of our orphans in Annie UK. Myla Park celebrated her 100th show. What an incredible milestone.

Myla joined Annie UK for the 2023 tour, playing orphan Kate. She quickly became a fan favourite, with her mischievous sense of humour capturing the imagination of audiences. She toured the UK, performing in cities across the country.

At just eight years old, Myla was fearless and determined. She worked hard to create her character, making Kate a truly memorable orphan.

Producers were so impressed with Myla that they invited her back for the 2026 tour, where she reprised the role of Kate. I was lucky enough to see her perform every night in Plymouth. I took this photograph, which I think captures Kate’s mischievousness perfectly.

Myla has an impressive list of credits across theatre, television and music. Alongside Annie, her theatre work includes playing Lavender in Matilda the Musical in the West End. She has also appeared in BBC productions, including Call the Midwife. Myla's episodes went out on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, reaching millions of viewers.

Fun fact: Myla is also the singing voice of Peppa Pig! You can even find her on Spotify. Her most recent release was 'Evie’s Ready for Nappy Pants!', a song created as part of a collaboration between Peppa Pig and Pampers to celebrate little Evie’s next milestone. It's so much fun!

From the stage to the recording studio, Myla is certainly making her mark.

Congratulations on 100 shows, Myla! Thank you for all of your hard work and commitment to Annie UK. You have brought Kate to life with such warmth, charm and good humour. The fans adore you. by @_no.more.mush

If ever there's a photo that sums up Annie UK, it's this one. I took it in Truro yesterday. Just look at the joy on Alex and June's face! That's exactly how I feel when I leave the auditorium. That feeling is magic.

I don't think I will ever tire of Annie UK. Yesterday was my 67th show and I walked out feeling exactly the same way as I did when I saw Ruby Stokes for the very first time.

I wish I could bottle that feeling. It disapears so quickly like breath on a mirror. But for a brief moment the show lifts me, it takes away the weight of my life, the grief for my mother, the ache in my soul.

Annie UK has been a constant in my life for almost a decade. It's so important to me. Annie can sometimes be dismissed as fluff, a children's show with little to offer. But it's not. It changes lives, shapes people and shines a light into the blackness. It's been my lifeline.

This tour is phenomenal. The cast are sensational. Claire excels as Hannigan, I knew she would. Alex has never been better! Christian Cooper's Rooster is breathtaking. Every support and ensemble member brings something special. There are three amazing teams of orphans!

Then there's June. Somehow the casting director has found in June the greatest Annie in the show's 50 year history. She has taken the show to new levels.

I'm just three shows away from my 70th milestone. I wonder if I'm a record breaker?

Look out for my full review in the coming days. @anniemusicaluk

Just a quick post because I'm very tired after driving 100 miles for another two show day in Truro today. And I'm heading back to the orphanage again tomorrow for one last show, so I need some sleep!

I saw June and Sophia again today with team Chrysler. I feel so blessed to have seen these two wonderful Annies so many times. I will be writing a full review of the show next week, as well as properly editing my photos, so look out for some new posts from me.

I have to say this though, Annie UK has never been better!

I never thought I'd say this, but this cast are even better than West End. Claire especially, she's the most incredible Hannigan I have ever seen. We have never had a better cast, I've been completely blown away by them What a bounce back from the problematic 2023 tour!

Annie UK is once again the world's greatest production of Annie. I cried tears of joy today in the theatre. I'm just so happy to have my show back on top form, 2019 was beginning to feel like a long time ago. Well done, everyone. I am so proud of you all. by @_no.more.mush

I had such a great day in Truro yesterday. I saw the show twice in one day. It was my first time seeing team Chrysler and they were phenomenal. I had two Amazing Annies: Sophia and June. I caught Elliot covering Rooster. I met Sandy (Dizzy) between show's and she gave me a great big lick on my face, and I found out the souvenir programme is finally out to buy.

Here's a few pics of the gang. The show is in top form right now. I'll write a review next week and share my thoughts on team Chrysler (spoiler: they're amazing).

@hall_for_cornwall is an incredible venue. It was my first visit and I was enormously impressed with the space.

What's even more impressive is their commitment to keeping theatre accessible to everyone. I paid just £15 for a front row seat in the stalls. Apparently, the theatre ensures that there's always £15 tickets available for almost every show. And they're not crap seats either! Front row sells for £15 regularly.

Well done, Hall for Cornwall. Putting the arts above profits shows true commitment and was greatly appreciated by this patron! I will definitely be back! by @_no.more.mush

As the Argentinian production of 'Annie' prepares to close this Sunday, I have been trying to find the right words for just how much this extraordinary production has meant to me.

I have completely fallen in love with it.

This has been, without question, one of the greatest productions of 'Annie' in the show's history. It has moved me, surprised me, and touched me in ways I did not expect, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have had it in my life, albeit from afar.

And at the very heart of it were three very special young performers: Emma, Paloma and Loana.

I don't think there has ever been a more perfect team of Annies. The three of you were perfect in every single way. Each brought something entirely your own to Annie, while capturing everything that makes this character so beloved. Your talent, hard work and commitment have shone through in every performance, and you gave so much of yourselves to the role.

You have won hearts all over the world. I hope you know just how much you are admired and loved. I will never forget you. Your Annies will stay with me for ever.

And to all of the orphans: thank you.

You have worked incredibly hard to create your characters, and together you've brought such warmth, charm and life to the stage. Every girl had something special to contribute, and it has been a joy to watch you grow into such a wonderful ensemble. You should all be enormously proud of what you have achieved.

A very special mention must go to Vicky, Cata and Martu, our fantastic cover Annies. Being ready to step into Annie's shoes whenever the production needed you, and doing so with such professionalism, is genuinely inspirational. Your contribution has been every bit as important, and I hope you understand how much you have been appreciated.

To Emma, Paloma, Loana and every single orphan: thank you for the memories, the emotion, the laughter and the magic. You have created something that reached far beyond the stage and travelled all the way to the UK.

I will never forget any of you.

Good luck for your final performances this weekend. Go out there, enjoy every moment, and give Annie the farewell she deserves.

Sending all my love from the UK. ❤️ by @_no.more.mush
