“Out in the back of a train
Headed west and they said
Hey kid, it’s only love
You tried to be the one inside
And we will ride again someday
I’m wild, wild, wild, wild
wild, wild, wild, wild….”

Man, what an honor. It’s not every day that one of your favorite artists/animators @markaneeley creates a little piece of rad magic for your place of work.

Granted, I have never considered being brought on to “work” at @laurelcyncountrystore as just “a job” but more so a treasured gift from my old friend @ryanask who took over the store in April and has already given it all the love and tlc it needed and deserved, and we aren’t even close to being done! As a musician, artist and social butterfly of sorts, I couldn’t have asked for a better opportunity to play a small part in such a big piece of counterculture history.

Fun fact- when I moved to Los Angeles 20 years ago, I was living in a very notable writer and his wife’s basement up in the canyon on Lookout Mountain. And I kid you not, my first night in LA the writer whom I was lodging with took me to see a double feature of REEFER MADNESS / THE LAST RIOT ON SUNSET STRIP at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood and suffice to say, we got pretty ripped on ol’ hazy Jane. So, obviously, we needed supplies i.e munchies to sneak into the theatre and knowing that I was a musician and fanatic of 60’s / 70’s musical culture, took me to the Canyon Country Store and that was the FIRST place I ever went as a creature of Los Angeles.

So now, twenty years later, it’s truly mind blowing, an honor and a privilege to get to walk through those “DOORS” every day, meet so many amazing, beautiful and eclectic folks and get to work alongside an old friend @ryanask who has brought the magic and mythical mayhem back to The Canyon whilst also making a new friend with, I will say again, one of my personal favorite artists/animators @markaneeley who’s work with @aquariumdrunkard @allahlas @carrierstheband @johnjandrews @markmothersbaugh and so many more has been so inspiring for me as a fellow artist. I am honored, Mark.

So if you haven’t come by yet, come see us at @laurelcyncountrystore and make sure to grab a coffee from our Queen Lily at @laurelcanyoncafe

“And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about...” 🐚
