Spending our anniversary away from the usual hustle has been so refreshing 🙏🏼❤️ Whilst we miss our boys, as we always try to spend it with them (our tangible legacy of our 28 years together), they’re not all on the same continent 😔
We’ve therefore taken the opportunity to celebrate elsewhere. Our day was nothing short of perfect Algamdulilah, mostly unplanned except for our first waqt at Hagia Sofia and the dinner cruise.
To our absolute joy, we stumbled upon one of the biggest global Pro P4lest1ne marches, commemorating International Human Rights Day. It was such an amazing feeling to join in, despite the language barrier- ‘Allahu Akbar! ‘ certainly needs no translation 🫶🏼

It has somewhat eased the (survivors) guilt one feels when doing anything joyful ,at a time when the world is in turmoil. It’s also so heartwarming to see the overwhelming support for G❤️za here, the news channels report daily, flags are flown everywhere and there are lots of 🍉 merchandise on sale at the markets.

I am, as always, grateful for the blessings bestowed upon me, especially one that has impacted me so strongly - the ability to be present for our dear brothers and sisters in another country. Algamdulilah!

Jumuah Mubarak!

This was a week where all I can do is say Algamdulilah 🤲🏼
With all the tragedy I see daily, which has escalated from oppression to undeniable #genos1de, I cannot find words any longer. Just duahs 🤲🏼

“Beware of the supplication of the oppressed for there is no barrier between it and Allah” - Sahih Muslim

We’re almost 10 days into the @muslimhandssa humanitarian trip and all I can say is Shukr and Algamdulilah. These images portray only one element of what it’s like. There is absolutely nothing like being out in the field, it changes a part of your soul, with images and experiences indelibly printed in your consciousness that will remain with you forever. Witnessing all the suffering, poverty and devastating conditions spurs me on even more to make that difference and to serve.
This experience humbles one to the very core, through incidences such as seeing a mother give birth on the floor with zero medical assistance or intervention. As she lay there, the little infant passes - and I am left helpless to change what has just transpired. I know this too is the will of the Almighty but somewhere in my heart I am hopeful that the new clinic we’ve helped build (with all necessary equipment and beds etc) will save many lives InshaAllah.
The message I’m left with is that there is so much more to be done, and as a testimony to this, whilst we’re in the field another humanitarian crisis occurs in Türkiye.
We cannot be complacent in the plight of our fellow humans, I’ve seen firsthand how poverty across the globe has devastated the lives of our fellow brothers and sisters. Where governments don’t have the resources to assist with a meagre social grant, or to provide clean drinking water or even the most basic medical assistance Subgaanallah.
Let’s make an intention to assist in any way we can InshaAllah 🤲🏼

And in the blink of an eye, the end of 2026 is in sight.

Every year has really had its challenges, and as I reflect on it, it truly has. But as always, the barakah and blessings far outweigh the challenges and trials Algamdulilah.

My intention is to never let challenges, and people, make my heart bitter. I strive to learn, make adjustments, let go of pain and walk forward with kindness and gratitude.

On this Monday, I make duah that your lives are always filled with more barakah and blessings than challenges InshaAllah 🤲🏼

October, you were great Algamdulilah ❤️

Back home and settling back into my ‘norm’.

When I return from time abroad I always need time to re-adjust to life. And I’ve realized it’s the ‘Return flight theory’.

Where I’ve realise that the hardest part of returning home is that subtly I’m not the same person who left.

I’ve returned to the same home, same work, same priorities and routines. And yet, something always shifts while abroad, through all the new experiences, and environments creating new neural pathways in the brain.

Through travel you see more, experience more, feel more and dream bigger. And without realising it, your world view changes, and somehow your comfortable bubble seems small in comparison.
I always return from every trip with a shifted world view, regardless of the destination.

The very act of managing logistics and navigating a foreign country, with foreign food, and cultures instinctively broadens perspectives.

Observe this on your next trip (disclaimer: it really doesn’t have to be an international trip- just an exploration of a different culture), and see how cultural immersion breaks down biases and shifts you out of your comfort zone.

We were privileged to experience Dubai as guests of @visitdubai.af and The Department of Economy and Tourism.
This past year has been challenging enough for all of us in the travel industry; and many of us are emerging from a pause or slow down in travel.
Dubai has been consistent in presenting new promotions, visa offers and reduced prices in an attempt to assist all of us to boost travel.
These offers makes Dubai accessible, and enjoyable for a variety of travellers. And even if you’re just transiting through DXB airport, consider adding a day (or two) to your itinerary to get a taste of the unmatched Emirati hospitality.

Jumuah Mubarak! 💖

If the woman I am today could sit across the table from the young lady I was at 16…

I know we’d both be surprised.

She wouldn’t believe how I overcame the obstacles, the trenches that threatened to bury me, or the mountains I have had to climb to heal. She wouldn’t believe how life changed along the way, or how I have transformed and grown.

And I’d look at her, knowing everything she was about to face, and I wish I could give her reassurance, advice, and tell her she’d make it through.

I wish I could tell her that some things would be harder than she’d ever imagined, but she’d become stronger, confident in her skin, and that she’d shed the weight of other’s expectations upon her.

I know that the trials could not be avoided, that our Allah is in charge, and that He has carried (and continues to carry) me through. Algamdulilah 🤲🏼❤️

Dubai… a city we’ve travelled to so many times and yet, everytime we visit there’s something new that we haven’t seen or experienced.

@visitdubai.af surely hasn’t disappointed in hosting us on this trip, from sky views, to checking out the Grand Hyatt newly built water park, experiencing their dining outlets and luxurious rooms. Gastronomy is impeccable without a doubt, and always rounds out the adventures and must-do experiences.

It was an absolute treat to observe the Dubai city lights from the decks of a luxury yacht as we sailed into the end of our day two of this Dubai experience.

There’s good reason for Dubai to be dubbed ‘Jewel of the World’ and we invite you to come and experience it for yourself.

If you’re unsure, a great way to experience it as a taster, is through a stopover visit, which will give you a taste of this remarkable city.

Maybe even consider taking advantage of the complimentary visa (valid on Emirates flight bookings until 21 October) for travel up to 10 December. Or the visa on arrival, T&C’s apply for South African citizens.

Either way, reach out to our team and we’d be delighted to assist you with your first (or next) Dubai visit 🏙️

Jumuah Mubarak & Happy Friday 💖

Algamdulilah for my first full week back at life-ing!

Here’s a reminder to the ladies (and myself of course)!

There’s no honour in being a martyr, it serves everyone else but you.

So, if you are able, go ahead and :

Pay for the cleaner.
Hire child care.
Order the food.
Take the taxi.
Book the trip.
Choose the direct flight.

Introduce your nervous system to ease, softness and peace. 🌹

And I re-iterate, this remains a reminder to myself first

I’ve been to and seen many places, and while I’ve mostly left my heart and soul in Makkah and Madinah …

There have also been other places that have changed me, as had many people and cultures I’ve been privileged to experience. Algamdulilah 💞

There are countless moments I wish I could relive, and I realise that’s the thing about travelling…

I never come back the same person, and always leave pieces of myself behind. And yet there are many more places I am hoping to see 🤲🏼

The Holy Quran encourages travel, highlighting the spiritual and enlightening benefits:

“Say, ‘Travel through the land and see how He originated the creation, then Allah will bring it into being one more time.’” - Quran 29:20

September humbled and strongly reminded me:
That I cannot work full time, manage a spotless home and carry all the emotional weight of my family.

It was a stark reminder that breaking generational cycles, being present for every milestone, and supporting everyone else would not leave me with enough surplus energy for myself.

This version of showing up is really not sustainable, and in some way I have to learn to let some things slide…

I need to learn to manage the ever present to-do list, and to prioritise making space for me to take care of myself.

This month I had to submit, accept help and know when & HOW to let go.

Algamdulilah always for my tribe 💖
