💫Introducing first year MFA student Samuel Vilanova💫
@_samuba

Samuel Vilanova (b.1998, Porto) is a Portuguese artist living and working in London, working across ceramics, printing and video. His studio practice involves collecting and collaging the everyday. By printing, chopping and repeating images and transferring them into three dimensional objects, exploring their possibility of evoking alternative, whimsical realities.
He works with passing scenes, stretching the time of fleeting moments like the slow movement of a cloud or the quick opening of a door.
He is thinking about moving through cities as a method to understand relationships with what surrounds us, the city’s speed and the potential for storytelling between the inanimate elements within it.
Playing with perception, metaphors and the absurd, the work revolves around a constant questioning of existence, searching for a sense of belonging and understanding the “universe”, in both a nucleus and universal sense.

stacking up the end of an era
an amalgamation of symbols and imagery that surround my everyday, things i understand and don’t but feel drawn to, an iconography that could represent togetherness and the inevitable next step.
I got gifted these tiny terracotta feet that i thought were door stoppers, after endless search for their origin I realised they were just meant to raise plant pots. its funny how sometimes you can’t really clock what things are by @slade_grad_sculpture

The exhibition continues until October 11, and can be visited Wednesday to Saturday, from 2 to 7pm.

we had the best time making this spell for @offseasonmargate and seeing all the work that filled the town last weekend!

we are very excited for “A Fumbling Spell”, a collaborative landscape that will exist @shopfrontmargate during the @offseasonmargate weekend!!!

“A shop front window becomes a landscape, abundant in fantastical beings, pastoral iconography and popular references. Characters wonder the set as imaginary alter egos on quests searching for their true identities. In this moment, their stories unveil and past and present coexist, resulting in tangled and twisted narratives.”
