feeling thankful for a productive PSTM with my mom joining me. I always enjoy reconnecting with supportive mentors (some not pictured here) and friends, and making new connections. my cup is immensely filled right now. 🫰🏾🥹 by @_scalpelscripts

so so excited to have done my first oral (and national) presentation last weekend at NMA! great to see old and new mentors as well as to connect with fellow med students across specialties. ❤️ by @_scalpelscripts

So excited to be Inducted into the Eugene S Mayer Honor Society for service yesterday with my classmates (slide 3). I started Medical Students with Disabilities and Chronic Illness (MSDCI) my first year of medical school because 10% of students live with a chronic somatic or mental diagnosis. These students often face structural barriers during training that can negatively impact student wellbeing, performance, and professional development. It is my passion to reduce the stigma associated with chronic illness for medical students. Our org created and has maintained a school-specific accommodations guide with documentation requirements, timelines, resources, examples of accommodations students have used in the past (preclinical and clinical), and advice for medical leave. Additionally, in recognizing that representation is important, we have also connected with local physicians and the national docs with disabilities organization for mentorship and discussions of what accommodations look like as practicing physicians. Our goal has been to foster disability inclusion and representation to reduce the isolation and shame that students with disabilities may face. I am so grateful to this community. by @_scalpelscripts

one of my favorite parts of my research year has been serving as the co-Executive editor of Iris, art and literary journal. Reflecting on my own journey through writing has always been a cathartic practice for processing the world around me. It’s a great privilege to see and to be trusted with the visual and written talent of my peers as they process personal and school related experiences. It reminds me that medicine and art are intertwined. by @_scalpelscripts

*very late recap* My first PSTM was so … impactful and affirming! Learning from giants in the field of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and forging new connections was so meaningful. Leaving with mentors whose paths to PRS followed both traditional and non-traditional means filled me with so much courage. I appreciated the chance to hear their stories and their willingness to be a part of mine 🥹. Loved connecting with new friends who I’m looking forward to mutually supporting and uplifting along the way. Grateful to be the 2025-2026 Research Intern for the Garnes Society where I get to work with two incredible women. Excited to continue to interface with and contribute to empowering underrepresented minorities in PRS. 🫶🏾 by @_scalpelscripts
