Part 1- There’s no life without growth.” I met Cliff 10 years ago through a friend in the zen Buddhism community. Cliff’s perspective on feeling life rather than intellectualizing it, had a lasting impact on me in my teenage years. After revisiting hours of old interviews we did in high school, I decided to film with Cliff again with a focus the relationship between his metal work and Zen Buddhism. Cliff’s dedication to broadening his senses and feeling the world more deeply even when dealing with the grief of losing his father and, more recently, his heart condition has truly been an inspiration to me and my work. I would like to thank Cliff for his honestly and willingness to allow me to film & interview him. “Catch your Wave” @jivesurf × @_so.journ_ “Jive is the way things relate to each other.” For Jacob, surfing begins long beforethe ocean. It starts in the shaping bay, where every board is built by hand with patience, intention, and years of craft. We spent a few cold mornings in Ojai and along the California coast following his process. Huge thanks to Jacob for opening up his world, and to Alex for bringing it all together in the edit. Out on @vimeo as well. Postcard Series 🇫🇷✨ Greetings from Cannes. Where the Mediterranean sparkles like glass, palm trees sway in the sea breeze, and every corner feels like a scene from a film. Sometimes the best views aren’t on a postcard—they’re the ones you stumble upon while wandering. If you could wake up anywhere on the French Riviera tomorrow, where would it be? 🌊☀️ 📍 Cannes, France #Cannes #FrenchRiviera #CotedAzur #southoffrance by @_so.journ_
Working with clay is a lesson in attention. 🎥Filmed by: @_patrickfilm_ Full video coming soon! The more you try to force it into an idea, the more it resists. But when you slow down, follow its weight, its texture, its own quiet tendencies, something begins to emerge on its own. Pottery isn’t always about shaping the clay—it’s about entering into a conversation with it. Letting your hands guide, rather than command. Letting form reveal itself instead of demanding it. A reminder that not everything beautiful comes from control. Sometimes it comes from listening. #pottery #ceramics #claywork #handmade #vimeo by @_so.journ_

Others see forgotten ingredients, medicine, flavor, history, and survival. Following the work of Pascal Baudar completely changes the way you look at the landscape around you. Wild fermentation, invasive plants, ancient preservation techniques, handmade pottery, fire, smoke, microbes, and food that feels deeply connected to place. It’s not just cooking — it’s remembering. The idea that the most overlooked plants around us can become something beautiful, nourishing, and even restorative to the environment feels incredibly powerful. Highly recommend diving into his world if you’re into foraging, fermentation, wild food, sustainability, or just rethinking what food culture can be. #PascalBaudar #Wildcrafting #Foraging #Fermentation #WildFood FoodCulture NatureConnection CulinaryAlchemy SustainableLiving InvasiveSpecies WildFermentation OutdoorSkills by @_so.journ_
We made this one afternoon in California on a trip back home. 🪷in collaboration with @_so.journ_ Ep. 29 Ziran is a modern fashion brand founded to honor ancient Chinese textile traditions while reimagining them for today. It was started by Kelly Wang Shanahan to merge her Eastern and Western heritage and create clothing that works in harmony with nature. Using silk dyed with yam juice and Pearl River mud, the brand revives a rare technique that naturally makes the fabric antimicrobial, wrinkle-resistant, and incredibly smooth. Rooted in the philosophy of the Daoism, Ziran represents living naturally, freely, and proudly connected to where we come from. 🪷 Check out @_so.journ_ for more episodes. by @_so.journ_
Ep.28 @_so.journ_ x @jacobneiwert Jake Neiwart @jacobneiwert is an Utah based motocross athlete. Living out of his van and balancing the physical demands of construction with the risks of racing, Jake opens up about the true commitment it takes to pursue motocross at a competitive level. From the financial cost to the constant danger, this isn’t just a hobby, it’s a lifestyle built on sacrifice, discipline, and passion. Jake also shares what keeps him going: the flow state. “The deeper the flow state is, the less it’s on your mind. It’s like there’s nothing that exists in this world except clearing this jump and flying through the sky.” For Jake, riding isn’t just about adrenaline, it’s about freedom. It’s about overcoming fear, being fully present, and experiencing a level of focus where nothing else exists. This is a story about risk, resilience, and chasing something bigger than yourself. #dirtbike #motocross #xgames #motocrosstraining by @_so.journ_
Ep. 27: @_so.journ_ x @bare_bone_art Emma moved from a small farm town in Colorado to San Diego 8 years ago to go to school, mostly to be near the ocean. She’s been making art for as long as she can remember, and in the last few years has decided to take it seriously. “My skellies are a recurring part of my work, inspired by surf and skate culture and the overall raw edge of the og brands in that industry. They’re my roundabout way of working with people as subject matter, without leaning into realism.” Follow @_so.journ_ for more episodes! #localart #sandiego #natureartworks ✂️ @kschall243 kschall243 🔊 @johnraffaeleiii by @_so.journ_
Ep. 26: @_so.journ_ x @dtsalish Qwul’thilum – Dylan Thomas – is a Coast Salish artist and member of the Lyackson First Nation (Valdes Island). Although Dylan grew up in the urban setting of Victoria, he was introduced to Coast Salish art at a young age because his family continues to participate in their culture and tradition. Dylan’s early experiences with Salish art ignited a lifelong passion for the art form – and, eventually, led him to seek guidance from established artists. Dylan received training in jewelry techniques from the late Seletze (Delmar Johnnie) and studied under Rande Cook in all mediums of Northwest Coast art. #vancouverisland #nortwestcoastart #woodcarving #vancouver_ig #coastsalish by @_so.journ_
