I Run for wild places. Tasmanian Devil, Masked Owl, Wedge-tailed Eagles, Spotted-tailed Quolls, and the Giant Freshwater Crayfish deserve a sanctuary

POSTS STORIES REELS

Stopped mid-run at Burtons Reserve and finally got the sign. 🏃‍♀️📖

For the last 20 years, Burton's Reserve Wetland has been protected under the Marine Act. It was a big win for Tasmanian wildlife protection and only possible due to people like you and me sending a clear message to the government.

I have signed up again to run for Takayna. Takayna is the biggest cool-temperate rainforest in Australia and second in the world and it's not protected. This year and I will run 62km through it. This will be my 3rd year and each year I wanted to see more of it and slowly increased the distance and the commitment of the fundraising goal. This year I have pledged to raise $2000.

Pausing during the run and looking around at the wetland filled me with gratitude, making a connection to how this place is an aid station for these birds in their 10,000 km journey. During my 62km I will have 3 aid stations which sounds like pure luxury compared to what these birds endure.

I am hopeful that Takayna will be protected soon too and I will keep running for it until then.

I would be really grateful if you could spare a few dollars, imagine us having a coffee and next time it's my shout ☕

Kunanyi alpine marathon 🏔 🏃‍♂️

What a run/hike/climb/crawl/walk. It started with a very special welcome to country by Uncle Rodney dillon, Linton burgess and his son.
It was a great reminder of how many stories this beautiful mountain witnessed and how so many before us walked this land.
Running with the mountain seemed strange at first to me, but through the journey of working hard climbing and maneuvering the terrain, i reflected on how special this place would have been for aboriginal people. It helped and gave me strength, reminding myself of how many before have touched a certain rock or tree.

It's amazing how the scenery and climate change and how different parts of the mountain are protective and comforting and others are open and refreshing. The plants are amazing too, but you have to stop and look closely.

It was a long day, and I must admit I underestimated how beautiful and technical the course was. But i would definitely do it again, probably with a little more hill training next time.

I got asked last night to think about what I will tell myself, when it gets tough on the trail. It did get tough and I am glad I thought about something to remind me why I am doing this. It was a emotional run ending in tears, happy tears. ❤️

Running manifesto:

My roots run deep
My promise I'll keep
I run for the wild
I am an Old-growth child!

The heart of Lutruwita beat strong in Cygnet over the weekend! ❤️

We hosted a screening of 'Takayna, The Heart of Lutruwita' to raise funds to end native forest logging and support Aboriginal custodianship of this precious land.
The event was a resounding success, with the Cygnet community coming together to celebrate the beauty of Takayna and support its protection. We shared a delicious meal from Lisa Searle's 'Feeding the Resistance' cookbook, sparking passionate conversations about the importance of wild places, and witnessed the power of collective action.

A huge thanks to Plants of Tasmania Nursery for their generous plant sale donation – every dollar went straight to the cause! 🌱

We set an initial goal of $1,500, and thanks to your overwhelming generosity, we've raised an incredible $3,127! 🤩
That's more than double our goal, and it's a testament to the power of community and the passion we share for protecting Takayna.

This incredible amount will directly support the fight to protect Takayna and return the land to its rightful custodians.

👉Want to be a part of this movement? You can still donate! Click the link in my bio to contribute. Let's keep the momentum going!

A special thanks goes to @holisticgrower for organising the plant sale and filling the hall with those exact plants we are trying to protect. It was a great opportunity for people to learn more about them and take plants home for their own backyard!

Hello friends and family, I have been quiet here and not shared much lately, apologies for that.

I’m taking part in the takayna Trail to raise vital funds to support the Bob Brown Foundation and raise awareness of takayna / Tarkine in North West Tasmania.

Your donation will help the Foundation protect takayna / Tarkine – please give what you can. Follow the link to my fundraising page here or in my Bio. I added some more details as to why I am so passionate about this cause.

The photos from above are from my last Saturday run, which was 16 km, in prep for running 23 on the 24th of February. It was in the beautiful lederderg Gorge in Victoria. A lot of up and down climbing and plenty of river crossings to cool down. Stay tuned for some more updates. It would mean a lot to me if you donate and please visit this special place next time you are in Tassie.

Most of you guessed it already. It was Grünkohl ( kale + potatoes and homemade smoked tofu)

This is one of those dishes that as a child I never really liked but now love. I love it as it reminds me of home but also because kale seems to be one of those things that just grows like crazy almost all year around where we live. It's also very comforting, nutritious and filling.

It takes a bit of time to cook but mostly just simmering on its own.
1. Sweat onion in pot until lightly browned
2. Add kale and let it sweat until reduced in volume.
3. Add stock, I usually add enough for the kale to be submerged and cook 60 mins depending on how soft you like, add some nutmeg, like half a tsp or so
4. Add diced potatoes and smoked tofu, some mustard 1 or 2 tsp and cook until the potatoes are ready

For more detailed recipes you can also just google "Grünkohl vegan" and there will be plenty of recipes :)

The other night I remembered the @tullyzkitchen curry I still had from @veganeasy dinner night ( which was hosted by @vegietribe and had delicious food )

Anyway, it was super easy and quick to whip up this meal. It was full of flavour and vegetables. I definitely have to try some of the other flavours soon.

After some negotiations with my 4-year-old between going to the doughnut shop or making them at home, I won 🏆 , or did we both win?

They turned out quite nicely and the kids did a decent job at decorating. Some with coloured icing and some with cinnamon sugar filled with raspberry jam.

Tomorrow morning's tea is sorted 🙏

Another day another Tofu scramble

This became a go-to recipe in our breakfast (and even sometimes lunch or dinner) routine.

I like it best with small pieces of soft cooked potato. Which can be prepared the night before, but also does not take that long to cook as the pieces are small. But you can make it with whatever vegetables you like.

The spice mix:
- 3 tbsp nutritional yeast
- 1tsp garlic powder
- 1tsp onion powder
- 1tsp turmeric powder or less depends on how you like it
- 1/2 tsp paprika powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 1tsp mustard
- 1/2 tsp black salt if you have
- 1 tsp salt or to taste
- milk to make it a liquid paste ( you can also use some vegetable stock)

A great suggestion from @holisticgrower was to make a big batch of the dry spices so it's even easier on the day :)

The other day I craved some Döner, so what do you do when you can't just buy it? You make it, and lucky for me #seitan is easy to make, it only takes 2 days 😊. Thanks to @86.eats for the gyros recipe. I love that it also uses #jackfruit in it.
So after some kneading, simmering, baking and frying, it all came together nicely.
I made two different sauces using #soyyoghurt ( next on my list to make myself), one #tzatziki and one red spicy one. I also added some Avocado, which I know is a bit unusual for a traditional #döner

🎉🎂🎈Birthday cake time🎈🎂🎉

Noah wanted a dragon cake this year and of course we were up for the challenge. In the beginning I thought I might be hard to get frosting and the lollies for decorating but it was really easy to find vegan options.

The cake is also really simple and it was fun as Noah was able to get involved a lot. He even made a little cake from the leftover cuts of the two cakes used in the process.

He thinks we should open up a shop selling things we bake and cook. little does he know the work it would be, but maybe one day :)

On my way trying to make the perfect vegan marshmallows.

I tried a few recipes and whilst these ones are close, they are not quite right. So I turned them into chocolate covered biscuits.

They turned out great and I was surprised that it saved the day as I would not have eaten all the marshmallows on there own.

It seems that covering things with @nestarmisssweetie chocolate makes everything yummy :)

As for marshmallows, If you have a good recipe that does not use gelatin and/or egg white please let me know 🙏 by @_tosa
