Things you may not know about artist @colijn_strydom * Colijn’s been reading Proust’s “In Search of Lost Time” on and off for 17 years (he’s making progress). * He loves being in water, walking and listening to internet radio. * He’s interested in almost everything, but especially in mismatched things. * To Colijn, making art is like playing a life-long game with no final outcome or winner. The best kind of game. Visit his solo exhibition FEE FI FO FUM currently on show at Untitled Monday - Friday By appointment (Weekend appointments also available) Untitled The Refinery Longkloof Precinct 7 Park Road, Gardens Cape Town. Currently on view, FEE FI FO FUM, a solo by @colijn_strydom Monday - Friday By appointment (Weekend appointments also available) Untitled The Refinery Longkloof Precinct 7 Park Road, Gardens Cape Town The exhibition blends shifting viewpoints between dream worlds, historical worlds and present reality through drawings, paintings and ceramics. Strydom’s process involved a sustained focus on the language of drawing, its primacy and immediacy; how it allows for quick forms of thinking and mark-making that feel less weighted. He is attentive to material too, with paper as a starting point and linen, wood panels and clay as surfaces that give way to rethinking old mediums that carry centuries of art-historical weight. @hugokabeya_ grounds his work in lived experience. His mixed media abstract compositions are situated within his personal history of forced displacement. By unpicking structures that make some lives seem expandable (particularly those of migrants and refugees), he reminds us of the importance of meditating on the impact of trauma on people’s lives, tracing the effects of minerals such as cobalt and the cost of extraction on human lives. - Ngopoleng Moloi The featured works are currently on view in “Stay/Return: Tactics of Repair”, a group exhibition at Untitled. @ninaturokshapiro ’s work is quiet yet powerful. She begins with what she calls ‘hints‘ - whispers and small moments that briefly nod to time passed. She does this, using fragments found within family archives, reappropriating them to create silk-screen prints that reflect on ancient stories told. - Ngopoleng Moloi The featured works are currently on view in “Stay/Return: Tactics of Repair”, a group exhibition at Untitled. @elizevossgatter work reflects how material life - organic and industrial - presents itself as continuously porous, unstable and transformative. By responding to her materials in the process of carving, heating and pouring, she is reminded that nothing alive can survive by becoming completely closed. Materials - beeswax, wood, pigment - have the capacity to soften, flow and harden without ever returning to their original state. With each encounter, matter carries forward… it absorbs, filters, resists and respond‘ - Ngopoleng Moloi The featured works are currently on view in “Stay/Return: Tactics of Repair”, a group exhibition at Untitled. On view for the first time with Untitled is Johannesburg- based artist @leonardo_sitoe “My practice utilises an Afro-surrealist framework, which for me means engaging with the collective histories, the stories passed down, the warnings nobody questions, and an attempt to pull out what is being said underneath. Childhood games are part of that. They carried rules that went beyond the playground, rules that told you something about how the world was structured and what lived in it alongside you. Hopscotch was one of those. Where I come from, you didn’t play it at night. Not because it was dangerous in the way adults usually mean, but because the night had its own occupants. Other entities. And the understanding was that they had their time just as we had ours. The game straddled that line and crossing it after dark meant you weren’t respecting that boundary. I grew up with that cautionary tale, and somehow, without me consciously sitting down to think about it, it came back through an intense and unsettling dream. That dream made me ask something I keep returning to: how much of what we were told as children is still running quietly inside us, shaping what we see when we close our eyes?” - Artist Leonardo Sitoe Slide 1: Hopscotch | 2026 | Charcoal on canvas | 56 x 63.5 x 4 cm 📷 @vanessacowlingphotography Slide 2: The Awkward Dog | 2024 | Wood cut-outs and tree branches | 30 x 25 cm These works are on view now in “Stay/Return: Tactics of Repair”, a group exhibition at Untitled. Currently on show ‘Stay/Return: Tactics of Repair’ as part of the @heat_arts_festival 8 August - 12 September 2026 Open by appointment DM to arrange Untitled Longkloof Precinct 7 Park Road Gardens Cape Town The exhibition brings together artists Elize Vossgätter, Hugo Kabeya, Josephine Grindrod, Leonardo Sitoe, Nazeer Jappie and Nina Turok Shapiro, all of whom consider remaining and returning as modes of repair. Working across painting, sculpture, printmaking and found objects, the artists dwell in archives, dreams and ruptures, foregrounding circularity and entanglement as productive means of thinking and being. From reimagining histories, sustaining pauses, looping and unpicking set logics, each artist insists on staying with the difficulties and using small gestures to propose potential for repair. -Nkgopleng Moloi To receive a catalogue or make appointment to visit, please DM or email: lille@untitledart.co.za alexandra@untitledart.co.za 📷 @slater_studio by @_untitled.art_
