Ten years ago today, we became world champions. A team, a season, and a moment that has undoubtedly shaped who I am today. Standing behind that moment - steadfast and unmistakable - was Anne Schelter. On this anniversary of that defining achievement, I’d like to acknowledge what Anne gave me, my teammates, and the skating world. She was my coach, but that was only the beginning. In the decade since, she became my mentor, my coaching partner, and one of my most trusted friends. Alongside Shelley, she taught me to do things well, to pick my battles, and to trust my training. As a skating purist, she reminded us that excellence lives in the details. Her presence in my life stretched far beyond technique or performance. She brought clarity in confusion, chaos to monotony, humour in hard times, and honesty when I needed it most. She showed me what it means to lead with integrity, and to coach with both conviction and care. Anne: thank you for the edges, the insight, the laughs, the standards, the sass, the check-ins, the shared silence, the push, the pride, and the unwavering love for this sport. ❤️ We carry you forward with every stride. ⛸️ We ride the glide. - Anne Elizabeth Schelter August 5th, 1950 - February 19th, 2025 by @_vicsmith
