Twenty-two, and just getting started ✨🎂

The feelings that art brings out in me are fascinating. Every piece has a story behind it, and every story teaches me to see the world through someone else’s eyes. It reminds me to stay curious, but also stay kind and protect my inner peace 🤍

Thanks #ucberkeley and #haas for bringing such wonderful people into my life 🧡 by @_whereistreefany_

Today, I asked my mom if she would miss me when I move out, and she said: “The door is always open for you to come back. I’ll always have rice and good meals here for you, so you can come visit anytime.”

It just really touched me when she said that. There were no words like “I love you”, but every word was love.

I didn’t often hear expressions of love from her growing up. If you knew me, I had a tough childhood in my home country. My mom worked day and night, so I learned to be independent at a very young age. She was stricter back then, and the distance between us grew. I rarely shared my feelings with her because I knew how stressed she was, and I didn’t want to interrupt her work. She loves me and my sister in a strict, traditional way (an Asian way specifically, if you know, you know 😭). Sometimes I even disliked it, but love doesn’t always have to be spoken, it can be shown in actions. She made sure we had the best education possible, worked tirelessly to give us a better life, and taught us to be good people. That’s one of the reasons I’ve made studying my top priority, so that one day, when I have a well-paid job and hopefully a successful career, I can give back to her, take care of her, and take care of my family.

Maybe I’m not that nervous about moving out and starting the next chapter of my life in college, but I’m scared to live without her protection. I know everyone has to learn to live on their own at some point, and I hope I’ll be okay, but I’m glad that now I can share more of my thoughts and struggles with my mom. She is the best woman in my life, and I regret not telling her how much I love her sooner. Only 3 more days until moving out day, I will spend as much time as I can with the people I love, with my family, especially mom.

If you know my mom, please help me tell her how much I love her ❤️ by @_whereistreefany_

Thank you for coming, staying, or leaving ❤️ SRJC has brought me many joys and experience, and I’m always grateful for that. Now, I’m leaving this second home with 4 AA degrees in Math, Econs, Business, Social & Behavioral Science, but I’ll never stop learning and reaching higher. Thank you everyone for coming to my graduation, I’ll miss you all so much 🥺💕
