A guerrilla version of Zia Ahmed’s short play Burgers and Chips was performed at Orford House for free in Walthamstow Village as part of the Walthamstow Art Trail.

The play is about E17 coming together to counter protest the far-right in the Summer of 2024 and was performed by the celebrated actor Zainab Hasan.

In particular the play highlighted the build up of politicians islamaphobic rhetoric over the last three years fuelling the far-right, and demonising the Palestine liberation movement.

Afterwards it was mentioned that Waltham Forest’s local Labour MP Stella Creasy still refuses to call the ongoing onslaught in Gaza a genocide, despite over 1000 people having been killed by the Israeli Occupation during the so called ‘ceasefire’

With global horrors being so overwhelming and normalised the play hoped to inspire other local artistic actions in the borough and ‘Make Revolution where you can’

After the performance the group WARN (Waltham Forest Anti-Raid Network) spoke about their anti immigration workshops, inviting audience members to join them.

Zia is an award-winning playwright and the former Roundhouse Slam Poetry Champion, and the play Burgers and Chips was last performed to sell-out audiences on the mainstage of the prestigious Edinburgh International Festival after transferring from the Arcola Theatre in Hackney.

George Orwell says “A society becomes totalitarian when its structure becomes flagrantly artificial: that is, when its ruling class has lost its function but succeeds in clinging to power by force or fraud”. Last week saw a demonstration of such fraud, as a huge miscarriage of justice took place. No terror charge or terror conviction and yet the first 4 Filton defendants were sentenced as such. For simply dismantling the weapons used to target civilians and children in a g3n0 c1de. Meanwhile we are seeing rampant terror and racism from the far right on our streets with the targeting of Black, Brown, Muslim, Sikh and minoritised communities, endorsed and encouraged by Farage and Robinson and their ilk aided by much of the mainstream media, with absolutely zero consequences. Make it make sense.

An honour to stand in solidarity with fellow artists outside Woolwich crown court last week in support of the Filton 4 defendants and the Filton 25.

I hope our sector finds the moral courage and conviction to push back in these unprecedented times. Though tragically 3 years into a live streamed g3n 0c1de would suggest otherwise! by @_zainab_hasan

🚨ALL OUT FOR FILTON24 CASE CLOSING🚨

Tomorrow the first trial of the Filton24 case will come to a close.

We call on you to travel to Woolwich Crown Court at 12 noon to support & make noise for all our prisoners.

The first 6 defendents of the Filton 24 - Jordan Devlin, Ellie Kamio, Sam Corner, Fatema Zainab Rajwani, Charlotte “Lottie” Head and Zoe Rogers - will see their case deliberated by a jury.

One of the beautiful souls and the youngest defendant on trial is student and poet Fatema Zainab. Here is a reading of her powerful poem Witness to Witnessing about what it means to witness a genocide.

Read by @zainab_hasan from @whitekitecollective outside Woolwich Crown Court on Dec 12th organised alongside @da3m.support @booksagainstborders @pymbritain and @freethefilton24

Plan your journeys, paint your placards, bring warm clothes and flags of Palestine. Let’s mark this historical moment in the case that has defined British politics in a time of genocide.

“The Hunger Strikers are at risk of death. Meanwhile, there’s been a disturbing lack of mainstream coverage, as this callous Labour govt refuse to do the bare minimum. The largest hunger strike in UK prisons since 1981 & MPs are laughing. For shame! It’s up to us to get organised. We’ve long been warned that if our govts are complicit in g3n0c1d3 in P@135t1ne, we’ll be next. Herein lies the proof. Nothing exists in isolation. This is state sanctioned murder. If our govts can let people of conscience die of hunger whilst held indefinitely in prison without trial or conviction, then this is about our freedoms at home as much as it’s about global systems of oppression inc P@135t1ne.

Last week White Kite Collective presented Parallel Time: testimonies & poetry in honour of Palestinian prisoners & in support of the Filton 24 & the Hunger Strikers at Woolwich Crown Court. 12 of the Filton 24 had hearings & @pymbritain @da3m.support @freefilton24 @booksagainstborders led urgent mobilisations. An honour to stand with them & their families until freedom.

Here’s a clip from a short film of Parallel Time by @decolonialdaughter The full short is on the @whitekitecollective page.

It was an honour to read “Witness for Witnessing” by Fatema Zainab Rajwani whose mother @sooki_123 was in attendance. Fatema was told we read her poem at an event she’d love but since she can’t go it was brought to the courthouse.

Show up every Fri for “Fridays for the Filton 24” at Woolwich Crown Court. This moment calls on us all.

Amplify the call of eight actionists - Amu Gib, Qesser Zuhrah, Teuta Hoxa, Kamran Ahmed, Jon Cink, Heba Muraisi, Umer Khalid, Lewie Chiaramello. Their lives literally depend on it.

Their demands:

End all censorship
Immediate bail
Right to a fair trial
Deproscribe
Shut Elbit down”

To resist is to create autonomous platforms that centre truth and liberation. We take the words of our Gazan siblings and walk. This time to @stratford_east, where theatre-maker Joan Littlewood lived and slept. Joan was banned from being broadcast on the BBC and lived under surveillance by the MI5 for being a communist. Her Theatre Workshop troupe premiered Brecht’s ‘Mother Courage and Her Children’ in the UK.

Liberal theatres will reference her and a breath later make their next anti-Palestinian move.
Oh to see her face and hear her curse!

Tonight our short film #DarkSkinBruisesDifferently has its first of two London Film Festival screenings and I went on ITV last night to talk a bit about it. I think I mostly made sense.

Grateful to @britishfilminstitute LFF for programming us and we’ll see you all tonight and at screening number 2 on Thursday x

At the demo yesterday! Starving a population shouldn’t be the red line. Isr@hell were already burning, bombing and mutilating en masse. Shame on this complicit world and shame on every individual and institution that chose silence to protect their own interests. Condemning this for historical record, so as to save face and claim you were always against this is not going to wash when we have the receipts. It should never have come to this and we will never forgive and forget!
