The 9/11 workers we rarely talk about. I was 13 on September 11, 2001. At the time, all I really understood was that Dad was working. My dad, Peter Miner, was a longtime Verizon truck driver out of Albany, NY. On 9/11, he was in New Jersey heading back toward Albany when he watched the second plane hit the World Trade Center. He made it back to Albany, loaded communications equipment, turned around and went back. He would spend months working extraordinary hours supporting the response at Ground Zero. He rarely talked about the horror of what he saw, but he never forgot the smell—or how “the air tasted like pennies.” Twenty-five years later, at 38, I understand what my 13-year-old self couldn’t. “Dad is working” meant something entirely different that day. We remember the first responders who ran toward danger, as we should. But behind them were communications workers, utility workers, truck drivers and tradespeople who quietly helped reconnect and rebuild New York. My dad was one of them. Peter Nelson Miner 1943–2024 Verizon — Albany, NY Dad, we spent years talking about September 11. I wish we had one more anniversary to talk about it together. We don’t. So now I’ll keep telling your story for you. by @a_lochner_

Being Keir’s momma is the greatest honor of my life. Every single day, I work hard to give her the kind of childhood I was lucky enough to have growing up. Happy Heavenly Mother’s Day to my momma. I miss you more than words can explain. Losing Poppa Pete broke something in me, and I’m fairly certain you sent me Keir to help carry me through it. She’s brought so much light back into my life, and I see little pieces of love, joy, and home in her every day. Today is bittersweet, but mostly it’s gratitude. For the mother who raised me, and for the little girl who made me one. 🫶 by @a_lochner_
