"Darkness makes me uneasy, but when I stay in it, my mind creates shadows and movements. As my sight disappears, my other senses take over — along with my imagination" IMAGINARIUM is a dance performance in darkness and therefore, the scenography plays a large role in creating the universe. The physical universe is created by scenographer Lærke Barfod, assisted by Alberte Hummelshøj Andersen and Alma Boix Vives. She's also created the costumes. They've chosen the materials for the way they behave and transform in darkness. Some reflect even the smallest amount of light, while others offer a more tactile and organic quality. Meet the IMAGINARIUM team 🔸 Cecilie Kjær is a dance artist based in Copenhagen and one of the IMAGINARIUM dancers. She says that they’ve worked a lot with what they call imagination journeys - “I can for instance imagine that I’m floating in the deep sea or that my body has a different shape or matter, which will consequently change the way I move.” IMAGINARIUM 31/10-14/11 BLACKBOX, Aaben Dans Get your tickets through link in bio 🔗 First photo: Karl Rummel #IMAGINARIUM #CecilieKjær #aabendans #beyonddarkness by @aabendans

What better way to spend a late October evening than watching a documentary, delving into the senses and inspiring conversation? 🍂🎥 On Oct 20, we invite you to an Evening of Immersion. We'll watch the 26 min documentary that's the result from when we last year invited a group from both the arts and natural science to explore the senses. After the screening, choreographer Thomas Eisenhardt will invite to conversation and share insights from his long-standing work at the intersection of perception and consciousness. Come and enter the unknown. A place where shapes emerge, take form, and disappear. Where scent can summon a memory you are not sure you have lived. Where sound can transport you somewhere that may or may not exist. Where images can be felt rather than seen. From Oct 31st to Nov 14th, IMAGINARIUM invites you to enter a portal into darkness: into dreams, subconscious landscapes and possible futures. Here, time loses its familiar shape; a moment can stretch into an eternity. Come ready to enter the dark, listen closely, and imagine what might be there. Beyond Darkness is born from a fascination with darkness and with what emerges from the unseen, the unspoken, the unknown. Sensorial worlds built from sounds, smells and sensations. But how do you do that? How do you work with dance - in the dark? Come to an Evening of Immersion, exploring art and the senses, on Thursday oct 8, 7pm. Here, Nadja Mattioli and Nanna Hanfgarn Jensen - the artists behind Beyond Darkness, will introduce and expand their artistic work and creative process behind IMAGINARIUM; a dance performance in darkness, which is performing at Aaben Dans in Nov. A huge milestone was reached yesterday, when the red ribbon was cut by mayor Tomas Breddam, Julia Hunt, Culture and Recreation, and Claus Larsen, Planning and Engineering, and our new theatre officially opened! 🫶 Over 100 people attended the speeches and saw the 10 dancers from Heart to Ride perform all the way from our new whitebox to the orangery, and then many more showed up for the open house part. There are many people to thank but we'll start with a huge thank you to our neighbours who've cheered us on through building dust and noise, our artists and collaborators who've been unfazed by working and creating in a construction zone and Roskilde Kommune and everyone who've been part of this journey, who've helped, cheered and celebrated with us - yesterday, and the last many years ❤ THANK YOU and welcome!! #aabendans #opening #alletidersroskilde by @aabendans
