Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day. F*CK YOU COLUMBUS.
To be indigenous is to know that our land is being actively r/ped and pillaged by colonial oppressors. To be indigenous is to know that 85% of our women have been subjected to violence. To be indigenous is to feel the heavy burden of carrying our communities on our backs as we strive toward horizons of peace and opportunity.

But to be indigenous is also to know that the we belong to the land, it does not belong to us. To feel the ground beneath us and watch the stars and know that our relatives have our backs. To be part of a community, communities, that hold us and protect us and love us. To love our land and to love the lands we stand on just as equally.
I have had the great privilege recently of helping shepherd youth through @mni_giizhik_theatre’s Bowwow Powwow, and watch them create a space that felt safe to them. I am so grateful for my teachers, community members, elders, and relatives for teaching me what I know. Mahalo nui loa to the people who have been part of my personal journey and my PhD journey. And to those questioning their worth/ancestry/land yes, you are Indigenous enough. by @aactioncat

PhD year 1 ✅ ever so grateful for everyone who helped me make it this far! by @aactioncat

$mahalo, mahalo, mahalo. i’ve learned so much yet again: from my kūpuna, who follow me in my work and protect me; my auntie, uncle, and grandma, who have taught me so much and have taken me places i never could have reached without them; those in my panel, who taught me how beautiful a community can be & shared such incredibly vulnerable art; the knowledge keepers, Kumu Renson, Kumu Osorio, and the other members of my lāhui who have so generously passed even a fraction of their knowledge to me; the Mauna, our ‘āina, ka Moana, which sustains me and grounds me; and pim, the person who made this journey possible and uplifted me through every step of the way. 💗 mahalo nui loa from the bottom of my heart, i am humbled by my lāhui. you are all so special to me. this voyage was more than a conference, more than a homecoming, but a call to action: how do we show up in our communities? how do we intentionally create a space where others can thrive too? community is a garden, sustained, reinforced, and empowered. May we in diaspora find our roots, no matter how far away they are from the soil we came from. aloha wau ‘iā ‘oe. so lucky to have this beautiful life. by @aactioncat$
