Tension kills speed. Closed fists create tension all the way up the arms and into the shoulders. Open hands keep everything loose and fluid. That is sprint mechanics at the most basic level. Relax the hands and the rest follows.

Five, four, three, two. The countdown is the final test. The body is already burning. The lungs are already working. And the only question is whether you hold your form and finish strong or let it fall apart in the last 5 seconds.

Open hands. Fast arms. Full effort. That is how you train speed.

doin what I love most❤️ by @aaliy.ahrivera

Two exercises. One workout. Both building explosive power in completely different ways.

First up, kettlebell swings with a resistance band. That combination is a game changer. The kettlebell gives you the load. The band gives you variable tension that increases as you swing. So the harder you explode, the more resistance you fight at the top. It’s not just strength. It’s power. The kind that makes you faster, more explosive, and harder to stop. Every swing builds your posterior chain. Hamstrings. Glutes. Lower back. The muscles that drive your sprint speed, your vertical, and your explosive first step.

Then the setup changes. She’s sitting against the wall, lifting her leg over a kettlebell. Soft tap. Keep your legs straight.

That’s a completely different kind of work. This is controlled, isolated leg strength. No momentum. No swinging. Just your core stabilizing your body against the wall while your leg lifts, crosses over, and comes back. Straight legs means the work stays in your hips and hamstrings. The moment you bend your knee, you cheat the movement and take the tension off the muscles that need it most.

Soft tap. That means control. You’re not throwing your leg over. You’re lifting it with purpose and bringing it back down gently. That control builds the kind of muscle activation that translates to every sport. Lateral stability. Hip mobility. Core engagement. All from sitting against a wall and moving your leg over a kettlebell.

Two exercises. One builds explosive power through dynamic movement. The other builds controlled strength through isolation. Together they make a complete athlete. Power and control. Speed and stability. You need both.

Quicker than that.

That’s the cue. The countdown starts and you have to beat it. 6, 5, 4, 3, 2. Every second is a demand. Not a suggestion. The clock doesn’t wait and neither does the competition.

This drill is about reaction speed. How fast can you go from standing to full speed? How quickly can your body respond when the command drops? That’s what separates fast athletes from explosive ones. Fast athletes reach top speed eventually. Explosive athletes get there now.

Full speed. That’s the only gear that counts in this drill. You don’t ramp up. You don’t ease into it. The countdown hits zero and you fire. Every muscle. Every fiber. All at once.

10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2. The countdown gets longer. The demand gets higher. Your body has to sustain that explosive output for more time. That’s how you build speed endurance. Not just being fast once. Being fast repeatedly.

This is the kind of work that shows up in the first step. The first step that beats the defender. The first step that creates separation. The first step that changes the game.

Dreams don’t become reality by chance they’re built through discipline, sacrifice, and consistency. Every rep I take is another step toward the player I’m working to become. The goal is bigger than today. No shortcuts. No excuses. Just showing up every day with a purpose and giving everything I have. Growth comes from consistency, and I’m committed to the process.

Stay aggressive with every pull.

That’s the instruction. Not just go through the motion. Attack it. Every rep. Every pull. The band gives you resistance and you give it right back.

Sit a little lower. That’s where the work shifts from your quads to your glutes and hamstrings. The lower you sit, the more the posterior chain takes over. That’s the chain that drives sprinting, jumping, cutting. You build it here so it shows up on the field.

Keep it up. Keep it up. Keep it up. That’s not just motivation. That’s coaching reminding you that fatigue is not a reason to stop. It’s a signal that you’re entering the zone where the adaptation happens. The reps that matter most are the ones that hurt.

Stay aggressive. Stay low. Keep pulling.
