Representatives from our member universities and consortium leadership, through the National Reference Group, came together to reflect on the past year and shape the road ahead for our in-country study programs.

This forum is central to how Acicis operates as a university consortium. It gives our members a shared voice in program quality, student experience and long-term direction, supporting students to build skills, cultural understanding and professional connections in Indonesia. The program also included a dinner with our current Semester 63 students and Acicis staff. It was a valuable opportunity for members and leadership to hear directly from the students at the heart of our programs, and for the Acicis community to connect across generations.

We thank all member universities and National Reference Group representatives for their continued commitment and contributions, and we look forward to the year ahead. by @acicis.studyabroad

Pulang (v.) - to return, to find one's way back to where the heart belongs.

We are closing our Bahasa Sesh Challenge with a deep reflection from @elewilliams ; an Acicis alum, former Resident Director, and now a National Reference Group member. For her, pulang transcends geography. It is a profound experience of navigating two identities: the homecoming to Australia, and the equally powerful return to Indonesia.

Language connects us to places, but more importantly, it connects us to each other. As we bring this challenge to a close, we look back at the beautiful community we’ve built together over these past weeks.

To everyone who participated and engaged: thank you for making Bahasa Sesh a space of shared belonging. The challenge ends here, but the door is always open.

Good luck to all participants; the winner will be announced in the coming weeks! by @acicis.studyabroad

GONGGG!! Wait… are we talking about an instrument? 👀
Not quite! “GONG” is a popular Gen Z slang word used in some contexts - and right now it’s the perfect occassion.

Congratulations Athaya on winning our last weekly entries! by @acicis.studyabroad

Sayang is one of my favourite words I learned about. It’s one those words that can be a contradiction to itself if we try to look at it only from an english language lens. It’s a great reminder that when learning a new language, there is sometimes no direct translation or no one word that can some up meaning.

Linguists trace its roots back to Proto-Malayic saŋaj, a word that already carried an emotional duality: love intertwined with pity, care tied to loss, tenderness mixed with a hint of sorrow. (Source Medium.com / @ alxals)

This led me to my interpretation,I think it’s meant to be a word that is honest, a word that you can’t hide behind and a word that reminds you that all emotions including love carry vulnerability.

When you use Sayang towards someone or something you are acknowledging that love can come with more than just happiness such as regret or honesty.
