A month has passed since the festive opening of the Tel Aviv Biennale of Crafts and Design at MUZA, @eretzisraelmuseum (on view until November 30). This feels like a good moment to return to Territorial Continuity, the porcelain installation I am showing as part of the Biennale, and to share a little more about the process from which it emerged. The work consists of white porcelain objects based on photographs of houses in areas affected by destruction. Through a subtractive process, I gradually exposed the inner contours of the images, transforming them into topographic maps and later into fragmented porcelain forms, deepening the process of abstraction. Hand-cut and suspended on the wall with delicate sewing pins, the porcelain fragments detach from a specific place or moment in time, while still carrying the memory of the source from which they emerged. The work grew out of an attempt to examine and reorganize personal and collective perceptions of territory, home, and identity through material and form, while holding the tension and fragility embedded in the structures we create. For me, the work invites a slower gaze. It asks for time, for coming closer and stepping back, for allowing meanings and points of connection to gradually appear, especially those that may not reveal themselves at first glance. ... Patchwork Quilt, 2026 on view at the Van Leer Institute in Jerusalem until November 20. ... Mass, weight, fragility, protection, enclosure. A body that holds a promise it cannot fulfill. And the collapse under the burden. A burden passed on in an endless loop. From these thoughts, the work emerged — an evolving process that began with the creation of a protective vest and grew into an enormous quilt. Made of plastic ice bags filled with sea sand and sewn together with nylon thread, the work holds a profound tension between its weight and the delicacy of the materials from which it is made. A tension that carries an inherent threat. This tension became tangible during the installation, as the conditions of the space and the force of gravity caused sand to leak. The work responds to its encounter with reality, its internal balance shifting, while its ability to endure remains uncertain… As the @duart_curators wrote: "The dialogue surrounding the work unfolded alongside the process we experienced as a society during wartime — from protecting the individual body to something broader and more collective. The quilt, which resembles a soft and comforting patchwork blanket, is the result of labor-intensive, repetitive work traditionally associated with women's labor. Yet the sand filling connects it to the masculine practice of filling sandbags for protection. In Adi's quilt, the masculine and feminine come together in the human. Yet this quilt is ultimately futile — if you try to cover yourself with it, its weight may crush you, and if you try to move it, it may fall apart entirely." … On Friday, October 30, at 11:00 AM, I'll be taking part in a gallery talk, where I'll share the process behind the work and its evolution through to its installation. You're warmly invited. Installation photography: Asaf Alboher @van_leer_institute @jerusalembiennale by @adi.vanvelsen
I'm excited to invite you to Time Collapsing, Routine Leaking, a new group exhibition at the @jerusalembiennale , where I'll be exhibiting alongside Merav Heiman and Moshe Tarka. The exhibition explores the experience of time and routine in a reality shaped by rupture and a shaken sense of security. Moving between helplessness and a glimmer of hope, it invites us to reconsider fundamental ideas of protection, routine, and time. I'll be presenting Patchwork Quilt, a new work that seems to have emerged almost on its own, out of the reality of recent months. Time Collapsing, Routine Leaking | Cyclical Consciousness in an Age of Rupture Curators: @duart_curators – Shlomit Oren and Lilach Shmoul. Opening: October 11, 2026, at 17:00, as part of the Jerusalem Biennale opening events. Location: @van_leer_institute , 43 Jabotinsky St., Jerusalem. I'd love to see you there! by @adi.vanvelsen

I collected these sandstone bodies during my walks along the beach near my home. Piles of sandstone that had naturally collapsed from the cliff. Layers of history that many had walked on before me. It felt natural to place them in one of the rooms of Liebling Haus. A space concerned with the preservation of buildings. In an exhibition where I explored, and have continued to explore ever since, questions of dismantling and rebuilding the structures that shape our lives, the ground we walk on and from which we act. A body, a structure, seemingly stable. Its stability drawn from layers of sandstone bodies resting naturally one on top of another. A closer look reveals the voids within it. Supported by layers of thin porcelain forms, almost breaking under the weight. Remnants of porcelain cuttings I was making in the studio at the time. And in these first days of a new year, days that invite us to actively look inward, I continue to think about the shifts and movements taking place beneath the surface and causing collapse and change. And about what it means to exist in the present in a way that supports, strengthens and gives meaning to the layers of history that are part of who we are today. … Area Cells, 2024 Sandstone and porcelain installation Human Shield, curated by @krasnymichal @liebling_haus , Tel Aviv Installation views by @adi.vanvelsen
I’m happy and excited to take part in LeSha’ata, a group exhibition exploring the presence of transience in our immediate surroundings and the delicate threshold between body, home, and personal space. The exhibition invites us to consider the temporary and the ephemeral not as an ending, but as a starting point for creation and growth. It asks us to find beauty and tenderness in the traces of time, in wear and deterioration, recognizing them as signs of life itself, and as openings toward healing and hope. I’ll be presenting three works from my series Topographouse, in which acts of subtraction reveal contours and traces of existence, suggesting that deep dismantling is a condition for renewed creation. Curator: Tzafi Sivan Spivak You’re warmly invited. Opening: Thursday, September 3, at 7:30 PM Teo Gallery, 168 Wingate St., Herzliya @tzafisivanspivak @teoherzliya by @adi.vanvelsen
