For a long time I’ve asked myself a simple question: why are we labelled with a colour that isn’t ours? Our skin tones are undeniably brown, yet we’re called black, a colour historically tied to fear, danger, and all forms of negativity within European cultural systems and their languages.

This has never made sense.

My first book confronts that contradiction directly and argues that this is a question people of African descent can now ask themselves. by @adisa.akintola

Uzoamaka, I'm sure you thank your mother now. 😊

I am saddened, at how some African parents discard the importance of their own names, and language, for European names. I fear it's not just for the sake of Christianity. Unfortunately, this is often an after effect of the colonial systems which taught Africans that all aspects of their culture are either evil or just no good.

The same thing happened in the Caribbean too, which is why today any aspect of African culture is still heavily stigmatized over there. 😔

I never cease to be amazed by the practical, yet elegant, nature of African systems of knowledge. Once you realise the true age of these systems, then one can understand how they would have developed over millenia. by @adisa.akintola

Sad but true. Growth is not always an entirely pleasant affair, therefore some individuals will not encourage it in you. by @adisa.akintola

Oh dear. I suspect there is a pressing reason that forces a country to allow so much wealth to be given to someone else. A very pressing reason 😯😔 by @adisa.akintola
